Stanislav N. aka pztrn (pztrn@f.pztrn.name)'s status on Wednesday, 12-Apr-2017 08:11:20 UTC Stanislav N. aka pztrn @shnoulle This news forced lazy users to set up own instances. That's great actually :) -
Stanislav N. aka pztrn (pztrn@f.pztrn.name)'s status on Wednesday, 12-Apr-2017 07:53:12 UTC Stanislav N. aka pztrn @dewb That's why you should rework all your authorization schemes and, possibly, force muscules to remember to press Win+L/CTRL+ALT+L when you're leaving your PC :) -
Stanislav N. aka pztrn (pztrn@f.pztrn.name)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Apr-2017 17:19:58 UTC Stanislav N. aka pztrn @archaeme Well, it's not about mastodon's suggestions, it's about guide writers. I bet 95% of those insecure instances was set up using bad instructions.
BTW, welcome to containers hell. Do you know that if you escape container somehow you WILL gain root access by default? :) Sometimes cracking container is much easier than cracking OS itself. -
Stanislav N. aka pztrn (pztrn@f.pztrn.name)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Apr-2017 17:04:48 UTC Stanislav N. aka pztrn @archaeme The problem is those who set up instances that "insecure" didn't understand what they do. Really. As sysadmin I'm always transforming any guide from "root user required" to "unprivileged user without access to anything but /path/to/home". Guide writers should be punished for guides that assumes software will be launched under root. -

Stanislav N. aka pztrn (pztrn@f.pztrn.name)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Apr-2017 12:20:11 UTC Stanislav N. aka pztrn @nh I'll recommend ZFS (particulary ZOL, ZFS On Linux). But it requires RAM and I won't recommend to use it if your system have <4GB RAM. Snapshots management on ZFS is much easier than on BTRFS.
