Twelve ounces is not a pound.

You can get a pound of flour, a pound of sugar, a pound of rice, beans, butter, and any other food item, but not coffee. There are no pre-sorted 16 ounce bags of coffee. If I want sixteen ounces, I have to perform the labor of pouring it from a silo into an empty bag. And that's fine. I honestly don't give a shit.

Something I don't think gets pointed out often enough is that

There is a difference between surveillance and censorship.

It's the difference between being watched, and being actively fucked with.

They're related, because in the broadest sense, they are forms of oppression. But they are different, and combating them may require slightly different tactics.

I need help thinking about something.

For a while I've been wanting to create some sort of guide about tech security and threat modelling.

Specifically, I want to correlate the layers of technology we use with the "layers" of bad actors and their ease with which they can exploit your technology.

e.g. local PD probably can't decrypt your hard drive, but they can see your FB posts.

I wonder how many and to what extent Netflix original movies are just written by their algorithm. Inputs of thumbs-up to thumbs-down ratios. How many times certain things are watched how frequently and when.
