    @segfault This true for most Mastadon instances. Kitty.club is not the only Mastadon Instance doing that. The original Mastadon and everything associated with it has started that trend. Gargron is not the first one either. gnu-social.de and pretty much everything ran by en kompis en kompis have blocked entire instances after blocking accounts wasn't enough for them. This broke half of the federation and split everything associated with that into 4 big freedom centric bonfires full of the same kind people who were sick of Jack Doresey and his Safety Council filtering people against their will. This is why we consider filtering entire instances a big NO NO.

    @dtluna blocks are a tool for filtering out content from your feed - it's nothing more.

    Instance-wide blocks are dishonest for three reasons:
    - they damage the network by breaking threads and so on
    - certain masadong instances don't publish the reasons for blocks, almost all hide it on a secondary page that can be overlooked by a potential new user
    - distributed blocklists based on flimsy reasons that are approved as truth
    Beyond that, I don't particularly care about blocking mechanisms. *Reasons* for blocking might be funny to me though.

    I like how we always talk about "core mastodon" or "mastodon" to refer to mastodon.social and a few of the safe space instances, that are all under 1k users.
    The majority of the mastodon instances are actually more into tech than anything else and don't have any unjustified block lists (blocking illegal content only) like mastodon.xyz, mamot.fr etc... I think they're instances with the most active userbases too, though the bigger instances are the japanese ones, who really don't give a shit about politics.
