@mcscx As I wrote already regarding duplicated posts: this is an effect of the "guaranteed message delivery" from #AndStatus side and "duplication problem ignorance" from the GNU Social server side.

I am definitely not sure in what did you expected from Fediverse. A layout of micro-blog of Qvitter, Classic or Pleroma is not changed, even if you throw 64000 chars and unlimited pictures into it.
It still be micro-blog, twitter-like service with uncustomizable fonts(hell i specifically appreciate Lynx for ability to enlarge symbols for my eyes without breaking everything else), illustrations only at the end (or at the beginning)(which mean only way to contextualize them is numbering them (like pic 1,2 and etc)). with no proper header, with NO Table of contents as a concept( for proper linking to specific point)
And did i mention that the only UI of Fediverse that provides a proper UI for long discussions that links to each others posts is Pleroma (linking to posts(pic 1 and 2), and AndStatus with tree-style (which in my opinion much less unwieldy than Pleroma one, and much less convinient in day-to-day use than twitter(which GNU Social essentially is analog of) and maybe Hubzilla?
But even those lacks of ability to link several posts in one of your own. Yes you say meme arrows(>) can substitute quotes in GNUS. But they are not providing faithful context on it's own.(pic 3 for traditional and pic 4 for chans style, and pic 5 for tree style, most unwieldy of them, but still better than Qvitter layout,but worse than Pleroma(inb4 reddit)

Good for you. Why not from very beginning? It fix a layout. But it does not fix a problem of "drowning in a sea of nothing" unless you are a popular person or write blog for your freinds. Nothing wrong with that, considering of vastness of written human things, and mental efforts to filter it out.

I suspect, that you missed quitter. And also old saying that "/b/ was never good" is still in power. There a good discussions there, and there are always be one-bites. A nature of human interactions

Morale: Wrong platform for thoughtful discussions you choose from beginning, and you naively expected a platform audience be compliant to your standard from different style of platform. And even ebil Gargon is not to blame here. Kudos for you planing a proper blog, finally
PS. Why did you mad at hakui again? Considering GS SMUG is a branch of /g/ and /tech/ of modern day, with own paranoia concerns(unfortunately, 2/3 of time based on real facts). And OPSEC concerns is a part of it

@mcscx@quitter.se Sorry for duplicated posts. It looks like a server processed the large image too long and I got Timeout exception at my side after 30 seconds.
I will change default "Connection timeout" in #AndStatus Settings -> Syncing to 60 seconds to accommodate for such slow servers. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4099046 -

@roka I created the feature ticket: "Maximum size of cached images, Mb" with a default value of 100 Mb
I.e. we may decide to store messages for years, but have a reasonable limit for avatars and attachments.

Avatars are much smaller than attachments, so maybe internally #AndStatus will distribute the whole allocated size between them so that avatars could live longer in the cache.

@andstatus @thefaico it does but the lowest deletion thresholds (500 messages or one day) can still clog up built-in memory on certain low-memory devices, especially since the only choices for storage are /data/ or /storage/emulated/0/. Doubly so if you follow artists on pawoo and opt to *not* disable displaying attachments.
To be fair, it is absolutely a matter of setting AndStatus up appropriately but can still be annoying.
Newer Androids (6+ afair) at least have an option of pooling internal and external memory together - but that requires a format. -

While helping one of my friends to make UI of his application more responsive, I found out that #AndStatus needs similar fixes also... As a result of this discovery potentially long file access operations (actually, all file access functions) where moved to asynchronous tasks. And timeline scrolling became smooth!

Currently I'm refactoring User-related part of #AndStatus data model using recent amendments of #ActivityPub specification, which I initiated: distinction between a User (a real life person or an organisation...), Accounts of this user in concrete instances (Servers) of the global social network, and an Actor - the entity, which is actually present in Activities of the ActivityPub protocol.
Very helpful clarifications, allowing me to express clearly relations between different things inside the application. For example, now I'm working towards creation of views on a User across all networks, logically merging Actors of this User.
As a result, at the first step you will see e.g. actions/messages by andstatus@quitter.no Actor as actions by ONE Actor, even if you see these actions via several Servers, e.g. via mastodon.social and via GnuSocial.no, as on the attached screenshot.
The next step will be to merge Actors of one User into one view. E.g. set andstatus@loadaverage.org and andstatus@mastodon.social Actors as _one_ User. This cannot be done automatically due to current limitation of the #ActivityPub specification, but at least can be done manually for selected Users that you follow via their Actors in different networks... https://loadaverage.org/attachment/4021406 -

@nestort Yes, in some cases AndStatus doesn't retrieve conversation from a server, but shows only previously loaded messages of the conversation. Now you need to press "Sync" button in the Action bar to get the latest messages of the conversation from the server.
I see that I need to do this syncing automatically in any case, on every conversation opening?!
BTW I automatically monitor "AndStatus" word and the #AndStatus hashtag in all connected social networks using syncing Search timelines, so I received your mentioning AndStatus from several places.
Tip: #Mastodon supports search by a hashtag only, so please use #AndStatus for even better discoverability :-)

In appears that due to recent #F-Droid build server problems #AndStatus v.36.05 build was not prepared for F-Droid users.
Now when v.36.06 has been released (and is available, as usual, here: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456 ) I hope that this new version will be more lucky :-)
