@hakui two opportunities for the real prime stuff were utterly wasted on me. they were pricey meals for my hosts to buy for me. the others at the table were almost drooling on their napkins, and I was mostly displeased trying to crack into this giant sea bug in front of me.
I would have been happier with a simple basket of fries ...

gragramel is just angry he didn't think of sleazily capitalising on blockchains first tbh.

shortly before her death, Ada Lovelace passed on maintainership of slackware linux to Patrick Volkerding's great grandfather, making it the oldest actively maintained distribution.

@eidon @sim >butt in
i never mind -- I see cordial "butting in" as a cornerstone of a federated network, actually.
And so true: I also tire of the endless attempts to "reanimate" (nice word choice) series have ceased having contemporary relevance. tbh I blame risk-averse publishing practices today more than any dearth of quality ideas.

we don't have a secret handshake. instead, we all wear a certain brand of inexpensive wristwatches ...

of course it's well known -- all #gs users are terrorists by definition.

@ivesen I found a water that is entirely water (100%) is the best water I've ever had

i generally assume people only show a select side of themselves online, and the picture is rarely anywhere close to complete.

@ayy @ajr my phone and laptop do not have cameras. tape suffices nicely if you're got one, though. microphones you can disable at the driver level when not in use, which should discourage all but a motivated/targetted attack.
the easiest way to avoid pain is to use a reliable old PC you keep your personal/private data on that isn't connected to the net, and approach your devices that are connected to the net with the assumption that nothing you do is necessarily private nor secure anyway. it's not perfect, it's a little clunky, but it is simple.

>profiles were broken to be unviewable while logged out, federation with other Mastodon nodes was broken or disabled, and IP addresses of countries like Russia, Iran and China were added to their Cloudflare block settings.
this is your way of your of thinking just taken further, eugen. you shouldn't be surprised by it. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/792902

For once, I agree with the guy.
>Avoid Mastodon. The underlying software may not be garbage, but the people who manage the Mastodon network are garbage. And they’ll shadowban or even ban people whose views are quite reasonable. Game over.
Like some of us have been saying for awhile: if it's not niu, don't even bother.

and yet still blocks GSL.

>person registers new user with instance
>person apparently does not know what instance they signed up with
I mean this as no indictment against this person, but this is why account phishing works btw. https://gs.smuglo.li/attachment/925761

@rye it's not dumb. "dumb" is if you don't ask the question ...
wikipedia's def isn't bad: "[..] OPSEC is the process of protecting individual pieces of data that could be grouped together to give the bigger picture (called aggregation). OPSEC is the protection of critical information deemed mission essential from military commanders, senior leaders, management or other decision-making bodies. The process results in the development of countermeasures, which include technical and non-technical measures such as the use of email encryption software, taking precautions against eavesdropping, paying close attention to a picture you have taken (such as items in the background), or not talking openly on social media sites about information on the unit, activity or organization's Critical Information List."
in a nutshell, though, most of us recommend not putting up pictures of yourself in your avi or tl for the public to see, or otherwise revealing information would make you personally identifiable for someone sufficiently motivated.

>Yeah like I've noticed that I went from really liking this place to thinking about it, now, as just another Twitter where you're breaking your finger trying to rid spaces of bad people
look in the mirror, pumpkin.
