In most other nextcloud instances out there, where server side encryption is not implemented, your files are stored unencrypted.

Our Privacy Policy is I think quite clear on this topic. It's actually being re-written as we speak to make it even more clear (should be out within a week).

All your files stored on our nextcloud are encrypted with a key created based on your credentials. This means that unless we do MITM attak on you and get your credentials we cannot see the content of the files. However, contacts, calendars, circles, tasks are unencrypted so potentially we can read it.

@ram Seems like local network you are connected to is trying to do MITM. Sometimes hotels, cafe's etc do that. Stay away from them

We did some temporary workaround fix to re-enable end to end encryption in nextcloud. Is any of you experiencing issues syncing files today?

Setting up your own instance is anyway the way to go. Running searx is pretty easy, though watch out for bots, crawlers and other scum that once discovered will most probably lead to google blocking your instance (unless you dont care about g*** search results)

🔩 Discourse forum down for update

Tonight we will be updating our discourse forum. The forum will be down from midnight Amsterdam Local Time (CEST) until it's done. The work requires quite few under the hood changes so unlike usually we will keep the instance down until it is all finished. Estimated downtime is between 1-2 hours.
