I also had 2 bananas that were way overripe, so I made banana bread, having to substitute carob syrup as I did not have any honey around. #SolarCooking
I wish there was a daily news source that gave science news (upcoming papers, cool findings, new species, engineering achievements, etc) equal billing with political news.
"That's the last straw, Computer." I said. My computer had long known this day would come and was much more nimble that I'd anticipated when I lunged at her with the hot poker from the fire.
"It wasn't even me!" She wailed. "It was someone like you!" "But shouldn't you go after the lawmakers?" "I can't get away with skewering them!"
I don't know... if we don't make it. I do not worry much. The ants will take good care of the earth and their decedents will do Bilateria proud. I just know it.
This whole "semi-social monkey" thing never really made any sense if you think about it at all.
13. "Sir! Sir!" I stopped Missy and said Yes, and she said, "Is your donkey friendly?" I said, "Yes, she loves people." (She particularly loves kids, there is some kind of psychic link between kids and donkeys.) She said, "May I go in and ask my dad if I can pet her?" I said sure, and off she ran. I'm guessing ten or eleven, somewhere in there. She came back out, came out to the street, and as she came over to the buggy, I said, "Here's a donkey treat, give her this," and she took it.
4. I do not defend the system we have designed and built, in fact I condemn it as the heart and soul of hubris, but I can see how it works. The same thing applies to demanding we just stop oil. If we stopped oil tomorrow without some serious prep work, millions really would die. We cannot have a global food supply chain without oil. Face that. Admit it. Want to stop oil? Create local supply chains. Grow food everywhere. Step 1. Quit shitting in the water. Step 2.
4. I'm really tired of seeing "halt fossil fuels." I'm sorry, y'all, but - highways are what we do with fossil fuels. Building highways, . maintaining highways, and using highways, are three of the biggest uses of fossil fuels in the United States. We're all letting our government - not the bad guys, not Joe Manchin or somebody, the Good Guys - build highway projects in all 50 states. Pete Fossilfuel the Transportation Secretary, loves him some new billion - barrel diesel oil projects.
We gave him a few minutes. Then tried to gently encourage him with a bucket of grain, and finally gentle pushes on the backside. Nothing.
So we got the goat guardian dog, Jack. Jack was REALLY EXCITED but also REALLY NERVOUS about this giant thing. He sniffed cautiously, and the llama cautiously sniffed back.
Ok I have a cancelled meeting! So I'm going to tell you the llama arrival story (as the sky above the canola fields outside slowly turns apocalyptically orange from wildfires hundreds of km away... here's something lighter.)
So, my friend has had this llama for years. He's been a good guardian for my friend's goats. But my friend sold all his goats last year (farming is really hard, people need breaks). So what to do with the llama?
Here's how I work mine. You cannot force this kind of cooperation. You cannot abuse an animal into it. Yes there are abusers. They're fools and it never works for them. In much of the energy efficient world, women drive donkeys. Because women aren't inclined to beat on them, so it works. There's one crabby old bat in the Ethiopia video, but not violent. Her donkey gives her shit. She deserves it. https://youtu.be/Db1zYr1xPKM
Reviewed #SlowWays Okehampton to Chagford today (with a side quest to Belstone). Had drizzle, driving rain (my boots leaked, despite reproofing ☹️ - having wet feet sucks) then sunshine. Fortunately I was sheltered from much of the rain by some gorgeous green, mossy #holloways. The one in 3rd pic was incredible - a deep, narrow bridleway leading to a ford & stepping stones over the river Teign (one for my top 10).
