Federation requires some level of mutual respect, y'all. There's good hearted lulz and then there's instigating witch hunts. That shits gonna keep us cornered into a small subsection of the fediverse unable to communicate with anyone outside of ourselves, as the rest of it continues to grow.
This will ensure new users on popular nodes never even experience or learn what being part of a decentralized network means and will relegate problematic servers to the status of /r/the_donald, /r/kotakuinaction or /r/gamerghazi. the dregs.
I know it's stupid as hell to constantly be called nazi but we're thicker skinned than that, you know? I'm not saying don't shitpost or whatever. We're not responsible for what shows up in PTLs and there's plenty of self-censorship tools to allow users to curate their public and network timelines the way they want. Fine to call bullshit sometimes too, but circumventing blocks and hunting users breaks that mutual respect required.
Admins will do what they want. Transparent rules and bans are important, but there won't be a conversation if no one can see the discussion.

With the 'alt-right' movement fleeing platforms they find offensive, a few networks have seen slight bursts of success. Gab.ai and Minds.com have become insulated safe spaces for the sensitive members of this group. That being said, there's still a lot of harassment being seen on the Twitter front and that makes it unusable for many people who simply wish to interact inside of an all inclusive bubble with no one challenging their beliefs.
The solution may be a little known Twitter alternative which has been around for several years. It's not technically a website, but more of a service. GNUsocial is a network of servers that talk to each other in what's known as a federation. The idea is that anyone can start a server and set their own rules, but if a user is brave enough, they can peer into the abyss known as the 'Public Timeline' and 'natively' interact with people on other networks. If a server (also known as instance) admin or user was unhappy with these interactions, he or she could ban users from appearing on his or her timeline.This doesn't ban the user from the GNUsocial protocol, but only from their particular instance. This solves many of the problems that Twitter has and acts as a form of self-censorship. This has been good enough for a few of these networks, such as Sealion.Club, Quitter.se and Shitposter.club. But only one man had the vision and ego to truly break what was working. His name is Eugen."

I was at Victoria's Secret today picking up some underwear (I KNOW, EXPENSIVE AND OBJECTIFYING, BUT IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT FITS MY FAT ASS) when a man came in shouting all sorts of obscene bullshit about Christmas and how it's more than a holiday, that it's the season of "The Birth of Christ". Well, I'm not one to hold my tongue, so I told him that he should take his problematic language elsewhere and reminded him that the holidays are for everyone, from black people (Kwanza) to Jews (Hannukah) to Atheists (Atheists can celebrate Christmas too). Everyone around me started clapping. The idiot started stammering "m-m-muh guns" and I told him that Hillary won the popular vote and that he should take his bigotry elsewhere. Everyone started clapping again. So let this be a lesson to always speak your mind, especially when bigotry is afoot. -
