I think what a lot of people are realizing is that going independent and reclaiming one's online space is hard, hard work. Probably more so than people expected after reading a 'why you should self host' post.

And no doubt, it hard. Taking responsibility for your space is no easy task, not to even mention being responsible for someone else's space.

The future is probably not as sexy as we hoped it would be.

But what a lot of people underestimate is that we are realizing this _together_

[High profile white guy harassed for part of a day]
"OH MY GOD! HARASSMENT IS SO BAD! WITH HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!! WE CAN'T CONTINUE LIKE THIS. PEOPLE ARE SO MEAN. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!! COMMUNITY NOW!!"

I know there are still a lot of feelings about the messiness over the weekend, but I kind of enjoyed it because it stripped away the pretense and showed who a lot of people are.

That is both good and bad, but I think some really good ideas and initiatives have come out of it.

Community is going to be an ever changing thing, especially when it's global. And it's not always going to be pretty.

But that's the process. We all gotta get a bit smarter, a bit tougher, a bit more open.

@Laurelai And I'm tired of having that conversation with intelligent adults because they refuse to consider anything outside of their experience.

@Laurelai And I'm so fucking tired of great ideas being ruined because white guys refuse to see anything outside of their own limited bubble.

It's absurd we are still having these same conversations that could be solved in people just listened.

LOL, this is going to piss some people off, but I gotta say it.

It is absolutely hilarious to me how white guys freak the fuck out for experiencing a fraction of what vulnerable communities experience every got damn day.

Yall are funny, man. It's funny how you use it for fuel to double down on your ignorance rather than working to lessen it.

It's almost as if you only care about when you have to experience it... or something...

It's funny how white dudes always pivot on how the get harassed online.

Yeah, I get it. It happens to yall too. But for everyone else _it is worse_

And if you're experience toxic behavior online, shouldn't that inspire one to work with other communities to lessen that impact?

Unless you think it's not important because it's not really that bad for you...

    🤔

The thing is the conversation isn't that hard to understand.

If you're a white guy, you're not a target of the most vile shit people do online. That's just a fact.

If you want to understand how pervasive and ugly abuse and harassment is, you have to listen to vulnerable communities who have to deal with it all time.

Excluding them from the conversation because you don't want to 'believe it' is a big reason why various social platforms keep repeating the same dumb ass mistakes.

I am absolutely reasonable when it comes to finding solutions and working together to make the world a better place. One's color, sex, religion, orientation, etc is irrelevant to be if one wants to help me with this goal.

What I am not reasonable about is appeasing the delusions white American culture has concocted to deny and avoid what has been the problem for centuries.

If the price of your 'allyship' is appeasing your feelings based on your assumptions, I don't want it.

A great summation of another ridiculous policy that will hurt US citizens and further push a nation back in time. FOSTA is pure stupidity to placate the interests of the ignorant and hateful.

Almost time for a new vid for my Patreon. I haven't made one in awhile because I've been dealing with family stuff, but I'm actually looking forward to it.

I don't have that many patrons, but I like talking to the people that support what I'm trying to build.

I really enjoy the process of building PV. The journey isn't easy, but it's been so fulfilling.

It's a new day and another opportunity to be a little bit happier and healthier than you were the day before.

Just give it a shot today. Something small that brings a smile to your face.

    Every little bit counts.

Morning lovely people of the verse.

You are far more than a worker or a task runner. What you do does not define what you are and can be.

Allow yourself the space to be whatever you decide or the room to figure it out.

You are worth that time and effort. Simply because you are you. And that's more than enough.

I have about 20 hours a week available for new projects, which means a couple of small sites or a good medium sized one.

To check out some of the stuff I've designed and/or built check out https://thetwelfth.house/work

If you're ready to get started on your project, use the form and be sure to read the disclaimer.

Any other questions, feel free to send me note.

From a society point of view, the advent of social media in particular has destroyed a lot of preconceived notions we've held on to.

A great example is police in America. Oppressed communities have long known law enforcement were not this magnanimous force for good that it always purported itself to be.

But it took the horror of seeing it for people globally to realize it's not just something people are making up.

    And that's just one aspect.

If you need sleep, then sleep. Don't sacrifice eating to continue working. If you start feeling irritable take a break for while.

Your well being is an integral part of whatever you are trying to build. It is absolutely necessary to prioritize your wellness not only for your work, but just for your day to day.

We all make sacrifices for what we believe, and that's cool. However your wellness should not be one of them.

Do whatever you need to do to maintain that. It's fucking worth it. Trust.
