Still very skeptical of the sudden interest in finding ‘solutions’ to harassment by white devs who had previously ignored or laughed it of when it happened to people other than a famous white dude.

It all just seems very disingenuous and folks hopping on a band wagon to score points with people who have been targets for years.

When white dudes start talking about how one shouldn’t expect to be sheltered, they are telling you they don’t give a shit about your well being.

There is a reason why I just don't allow certain behaviors on my instance. There is a reason people I look to for advice are not all cis het dudes.

We see the same hateful and unsafe experience getting replicated because people are flat out refusing to listen and learn.

If the desired affect is to have a healthy culture, you gotta diversify. You have to include people in the process and _listen_.

Otherwise, you're just going to keep going in circles.

In terms of what is happening with Masto main, remember... attitude reflects leadership.

And what is the one consistency in leadership between Birdland, FB, Masto main and every other social media platform that has become a safe haven for bigots and the hateful.

Do the math, yo.

Pay attention to people that are advocating for 'patience' while people are getting harmed.

They are not your friends or allies.

The time for lip service is over. Either you are going to set the tone in your community that hateful behavior will to be tolerated or you won't.

It's not that hard to have honest and critical discussions without being a bigoted piece of shit. It's not that hard to disagree with someone without having to disrespect what they are.

It's not that hard to be a decent human being.

People on my instance _know_ where I stand on this. Do the people of your instance know where you stand?

Don't make another meeting about it. Don't form another committee to talk about it.

People aren't stupid and they know what they're doing. If people cannot interact with someone that isn't like them without dignity and respect for their basic humanity, deal with that shit.

Stop giving space to people who knowingly are taking advantage of your restraint to harm people they don't like.

Stop trying to find common ground with people that could give a fuck less about that.

You want a diverse community? You want to be inclusive? Then you have to stand up for people that are the targets of hate and harassment. And you have to be decisive.

People aren't going to trust you just because you say you want it. You have to show people you are willing to mix it up for their safety. You have to show you are willing pull the trigger and simply not allow the people in your community to be subject to endless harassment.

You have to _prove you're worth their trust_

I believe in communication. I believe in using our words and talking about our differences so we can find common ground.

However, there are lot of people that don't want to talk. There are lot of people who just want to cause hurt.

There is a time for conversation, and then there is a time to just draw a line and say no more. There's a time to stand the fuck up and kick a bigot who mean you and your people harm in their got damn face.

And you need to be loud about it. Be clear.

If you're going to push yourself as an inclusive community, you're going to have to show up for your people.

That means pissing some of your friends off. That means being a buffer between the people you allegedly want to protect and the hate that is thrown their way. That mean standing up for what is right.

All the organizations, committees, working groups, etc don't mean shit if you're too scared to get your hands dirty and fight for what you believe.

Because that's what we need.

I talk about racism. Sometimes I cw it, sometimes I don't.

If you came here expecting to not see racism being discussed because it's not your thing, this is probably not the account for you.

I'm going to continue to talk about racism as I see fit, because it's very prevalent here and it affects quite a number of people I like.

Yeah, we're going to fight and curse and fuss and get up and walk away and unfollow and mute and do all the things do when people with passions in close proximity to do each other when our beliefs don't align.

But it's worth it when we can find common ground. It's worth it when even in our anger and frustration we can see the other person's point and the sheer ground that it makes sense and kinda fits a portion of what we think.

Those moments are why we are here shouting into the void.
