Almost 30 years after the creation of DeHackEd its external installation procedure is now obsolete. Now you can have DeHackEd files embedded in a WAD file that loads the code changes at runtime! 🤯

Discovery of arbitrary code execution hacks in vanilla DOOM games lead to the creation of ACE Engine.
You can now customize classic DOS version of DOOM 2 with GZDoom-like levels of additional features, that all work just by loading a WAD file like any other.

@nf Oh, come on. For an FMV game that is also a 3D adventure game it is pretty incredible. I find its cheesiness charming and probably prefer to to the follow-up, even though it is more competent in pretty much every area.

So I finally saw a couple of clips of the 7th Guest VR Remake and... looks kind of good, right? Interesting approach too. Pretty much everything is sort of re-interpreted. That's cool.

@aaronsgiles I feel like it's from an era when most arcade ports to PC were churned out fairly quickly & without too much effort. Plus it's a booter, so I'm sure it was just easier to not pack any more data in. PC users at the time were just happy that something moved on screen at all. 😆
