Like, it seems that I'd rather get a Dragonbox Pyra. But at the same time it looks a bit clunky as a phone replacement. But if I get a phone, I'll probably be at Google's mercy if I want something with current specs and software, which is no good either.

I'm considering buying an Xperia XZ2 or a BQ Aquaris X2 Pro or even an Essential Phone 2 if that ends up happening... I dunno. I really want to keep using phones but at the same time I feel like both the available OSes and manufacturers are becoming too shitty.

@sn0w @_HellPie They don't do it because manufacturers wouldn't be very happy about Google telling them how to do their phones.

@_HellPie @sn0w Android One does get to high-end devices, so I'm not sure if consider that one. Android Go however, I wonder how that works? Anyway neither of both are mandatory for getting the Google Play Store, which pretty much every Android seems to need.

@sn0w @_HellPie That would mean that the process would have to differenciate devices by estimated production/release cost, region of availability, etc. Seems to involve Google a little bit too much.

@sn0w @_HellPie That kinda makes sense because it helps make a lot cheaper devices, which is especially welcome in poor regiones where they wouldn't be able to afford smartphones otherwise.

@_HellPie So, I need to re-use an existing app ID for a system app? So say, if I want to replace Google Play Services with microG, would I have to call it properly?

@_HellPie Wait, but I thought OEM apps could avoid those restrictions as well...?
