🚨 ℹ️ : As you can see, we are back online. The reason we were offline was because of a DDoS attack.

According our server provider this was a very professional large scale attack. We are guessing this came from the far-right, but we don't have any proof of course. We are thinking about a long term solution.

ℹ️ We have now two new code modifications on Todon.nl:

* I increased the character limit of the media descriptions to 1111 (same as toots). Please let me know if this works correctly. AFAIK we are the only instance that increased it. So that's also a disclaimer: if it breaks things, it will be reverted.

* I increased the number of search results (per category) from 5 to 11.

ℹ️⚖️ I silenced Librem.one.

The reason is that there already a lot of alt-right people on there, cause there is no real moderation.

Why not suspend Librem.one?

Cause there are probably also many people who still think Purism is trustworthy. I don't want to cut off those people from Todon.nl. So if you see a lost soul on Libre.one please tell them about the real face of Purism/Librem.one.

Alt-right/nazi/fash scum can be be reported for suspension of course

Todon.nl is now running Mastodon 2.9.0 release candidate 1! :todon: 🎉

🆕 The most important new feature is the single column mode for the desktop! This is the default for new users and can be toggled in your preferences (See 'Enable advanced web interface' at https://todon.nl/settings/preferences/appearance).

P.S. Because this is a release candidate (and a change in how translations are made), not every new feature is translated yet.

Last night again extremely high queues, blocking for a few hours outbound federation.

In the meantime the first release candidate of Mastodon 2.9 has been released that should fix the outbound federation problem. I will install it today. So be prepared for a short outage, it's for a good cause.

I enabled our profile/user directory again, but if at the end of this week there are still less than 5 users opted-in (excl. our bots), I'm going to turn it off again. A profile/user directory is useless when almost no users opt-in.

See this screen recording about how you can filter the local and federated timeline on #language.

When the boxes are checked the timelines are not filtered. Check the #languages you want to see in the timelines (after this you won't see the unchecked languages in the timelines).

Language detection is not perfect. If you write your toots always in the same language and you want to make sure they are always tagged with that language, you can set your default 'posting language'
