PlatinumKats (katiekats@community.highlandarrow.com)'s status on Saturday, 03-Mar-2018 19:31:48 UTC PlatinumKats It's okay to come from Twitter, to the Fediverse. It's encouraged to an extent, Twitter is shitty a lot, and more people being here contributes to growth.
It's not okay, to bring the awful attitude and behaviour that Twitter cultivates, over here.
When people tell you to fuck off. They're not telling you to leave because they don't want new people here at all. They're telling you to leave because you brought all the old crap people are trying to get away from, with you.

But I guess that would require being a decent human being Eugen, and you've shown time and time again, whether it be through your direct insulting comments, actions, or the abusive community you've cultivated, that you don't have it in you to do that. -

If some people wanted a safe private space, in which they only interact with people they want to. ...Why the hell did you flee twitter?
Seriously though. Twitter has blocking, muting, you follow who you want, proper protected profiles, it's all centralized so you don't need to engage with federation or servers you can just go on a per person basis...
It's...genuinely, everything you seem to want. -

Twitter in general just...isn't great even at the best of times.
I've seen, and I imagine you have too from what you describe, a lot of people you'd assume to be fairly decent, end up idiots, or just downright cruel, through twitter bullshit.
I sincerely hope this fate does not come to the Fediverse+Mastodon. -

I don't think you've bad intentions with your post here, for the record, I understand not wanting drama, and to an extent I do agree, Mastodon and GNU -should- in an ideal world, work. Not all people on Mastodon are cruel after all.
That said, I can't blame people for having the dislike of Mastodon or it's nodes that they do, and others have to try and recognize that. People joined into federation, into GNU, for what it represents. Then Mastodon shows up later on, a bunch of the users go on witch hunts, Gargron himself tears people down, and the more things have went on, Mastodon nodes are popping up that block instances they hardly know.
A perfect federating world would be great, but when you ask people to accept a place and it's nodes, that have shown before that they like to act as authoritarian bullies, break the principles the fediverse was built upon, and go "our program isn't working with yours, you go fix it" expect resistance. -

Obviously I'm a HA user so, take my thoughts as you will.
But I'd figure to leave them unblocked, honestly.
At the end of the day, choosing to block your server is their choice, in doing so they accept what comes with that, if there's accidental workarounds on your end well, kinda tough shit. I recognize that sounds a tad harsh, but it's their choice to block, it's not on you to accommodate that. Fediverse is for...yknow, federating, after all. If they try and stop that, and a thing goes iffy, well yeah of course it did they're trying to stop the main intent. -

Short not too detailed history (I know a decent amount for a quick rundown in chronological order)
Mastodon launches, federates okay.
Gargon, guy who runs it, asks a bunch of devs for help.
Gargon starts being a lot more rude and insulting to people trying to help, or people just with different political opinions, his userbase at the time does too. This coincides, to no surprise, with them requesting cutting off federation.
GNUsocial people ain't happy, a lot of the users that were being witchhunted are the far more peaceful ones, they voice their complaints, try to help eachother out a bit more, their bonds are strengthened through a common "wow a bunch of those Masto lot are dickheads huh?"
Main-Masto starts cutting off federation more and more, handing out bans, Gargon continues being a prick.
Masto gets more popular, new people have no idea of Masto being shit in the past, assume "GNUpeople" are bad guys. -

1. Founded months and months ago.
2. Had at -least- 300+ dollars a month, in the first two months.
3. Repeatedly garnered help from other devs, then dismissed them.
4. Misled his own users on how federation works, to make Mastodon seem better than it is/was.
5. Received hardly anything but praise on Mastodon, until extremely recently (and even then I say that from reports I've heard, not what I've actually seen m'self, so I can't confirm Mastodon people are truly critiquing him now)
6. Repeatedly prioritized new features, over fixing bugs (and when he has, he's complained about them being difficult, while the very devs he turned his back on, fixed them far more easily)
7. Repeatedly, along with several members of his userbase, went after the more peaceful members of the fediverse, over mere political disagreements, hurling insults, to the point that it's smeared Mastodon's name for a long time coming.
My original point stands. -

There are instances that run better, and give users more freedom of choice, that are worked on by very few people, who certainly don't get 1,167 dollars a month like that "one guy" does.
Mastodon deserves all the criticism it gets. It could do better and -should- do better. If you're so worried about offending that you don't want to take a guy who gets that amount of money a month, to task, then you're an idiot.
