    @NeoTheThird I didn't watch the video yet, and although you mention #Ubuntu, which isn't #FreeSoftware (per https://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.html#Ubuntu ), I do agree that bringing parts of #GNU is good, specially those under #AGPL-3.0-or-later and #GPL-3.0-or-later. Or foster #Replicant for general use instead of #LineageOS (or custom #ROMs), not even #Fuchsia is good according to Eben #Moglen (see https://media.libreplanet.org/u/libreplanet/m/the-free-software-movement-in-the-age-of-trump/ ).

    There appears to be only one local news station with an RSS feed, and they didn't configure it properly.

    Totally agree with him about size limits for web pages though:
    https://www.nngroup.com/articles/size-limits-for-web-pages/

    A lot of people in web development are starting to raise the alarm about web page bloat, in the same way people were about bloatware a decade or so ago. The move back to offering static websites where possible, and even user-friendly CMS that generate static sites, is very welcome IMHO.

    Some useful advice on linking practice, and avoiding #LinkRot:
    https://journalistsresource.org/studies/society/internet/website-linking-best-practices-media-online-publishers/

    It's aimed at journalists, but also useful for bloggers and anyone else who wants the text they put on the web to remain well-referenced as time passes.

    Imagine a comms #UX, where I could choose a contact, choose a rough message length (say, short, medium, or long), and the software would give me an appropriate compose UI for that length of message, and poll the receiver's comms app to determine what protocol they prefer to receive each length of message on. Eg. I could set my app to tell senders I want to receive short messages by SMS, medium ones by #ActivityPub, and long ones by email.

    DRM on USB-C is just an extension of attempts to change the business model of consumer electronics from ownership to rental. Planned obsolescence and locked down operating systems wasn't enough. Now they want to lock down the accessory ecosystem as well. And it all comes straight out of the consumer's pocket, because more power for vendors means less power for you.

    @rysiek @erosdiscordia @deejoe @hansbauer Some folks' threat model is making sure their kids have food. Getting a pi-hole configured to do DNS over HTTPS isn't even on their radar. What does effective privacy look like for these folks? I can't come up with anything other than effective privacy legislation.

    @emacsen Well, there is also the fact that #Firefox is not #FreeSoftware, this is why #GNU #IceCat exists, see https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Gnuzilla .

    The Mozilla Foundation has a podcast called IRL. In a recent episode they talked about passwords and basically ended the episode advocating the use of proprietary password managers, specifically LastPass and OnePass.

    LastPass has had number of security breaches over the years. Mozilla is a non-profit that creates Free Software, and even has a password manager built into Firefox that is FLOSS, and even self-hostable. Why are they advocating people use inferior stuff to their own?

    @catalina @adfeno @theru Luckly, #FreeSoftware has a definition, so do free system distributions. See https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html and https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html .

    @catalina @theru Not sure if it fits with the #FreeSoftware stickers though, see https://www.gnu.org/distros/common-distros.html#BSD (however, if you think that the situation has changed, please tell the maintainers of the system distribution to read https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html#NewDistro or third paragraph of https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-non-gnu-distros.html .
