A neat aprilfools prank would be to seize the assets of all millionaires and above and redistribute their wealth and property to the community and then the wealthy never ever get that stuff back HAHA

@bob but I wouldn't say that WikiLeaks hasn't been effective. A lot of the other whistleblowers that came forward since they started (Manning, Snowden etc) may never had done so without that example. Various journalists in the adware news media (eg the Guardian but also others) got braver about actually doing journalism, instead of cheerleading for their preferred version of corporate globalization. Policy has been softened, at least to some degree, because of the backlash.

@bob yes, but at present, most of those dark patterns are implemented with... Javascript! #MakeJavascriptOptional and chances are you'll see a lot less of them.

It's long past time for more web designers to have a serious think about how to #MakeJavascriptOptional. #StaticSiteGenerators are a good start, and I'm seeing them used more and more. One benefit for the person running the site is that static sites use less bandwidth and server resources to serve the same information, and I image they're easier to maintain over time.

@rapnie FYI the innercircles.community landing page does nothing at all without Javascript turned on. Would be good to fix that, so a user arriving with JS turned on gets at least an intro text, and an explanation of why #InnerCircles can't do what it does with only HTML+CSS, and needs Javascript. #MakeJavascriptOptional

#Sola is a #SocialMedia app that completely replaces the concept of a social network (friends/ followers) with recommendation algorithms. This seems like a dangerously bad idea, and worse, I can't find source code for their apps.

@pixelfed I notice that the front page of pixelfed.social, with #Javascript on, is just text, images, layout, and links. But with JS off, I only see the links. Pixelfed.org, OTOH, looks pretty much the same with JS off, which is great. Could you please do the same for pixelfed.social, and make that the default behaviour on #PixelFed sites in general?
