Starting with Mastodon 3.5, we no longer try to auto-detect your posting language. It defaults to your interface language, unless overriden by setting it explicitly per-post in the API, or setting in Preferences -> Other.

And if you want to pop up in the Explore tab, make sure to opt-in to the Suggest account to others preference on the Edit profile page and set your posting language correctly.

@schratze Let me clarify that auto-detection was not removed out of malice towards multilingual people, but because of its wild inaccuracy.

@esi @schratze We are planning to allow people to add multiple versions of text to posts for different languages

We’re going to try to hurry and release the Android app as soon as possible. And yes, we’ll try to publish it on @fdroidorg as well.

Sign-ups really picked up since the #elonmusk news

The good news is that our Android app development is moving really fast and we’re only missing the settings screen now. I think it’s reasonable to expect the app to launch within the month.

We crossed 700 ratings for the iOS app with a 4,4/5 average!

For context, the “Mastodon” name is currently occupied and while I am looking into getting it eventually that’s a potentially longer process

Oh for Christ’s sake, now they won’t let me name it “for iPhone” because it also supports the iPad, but I’m not allowed to name it “for iOS” either

So... would the #DigitalMarketsAct basically make WhatsApp flip the XMPP federation switch back on..?
