I don't think I can put into words how stressful this week has been.

Mastodon for Android has been installed over 32K times! Still only 400 ratings though. Please don't forget to rate the app!

And Mastodon for iOS has been downloaded over 87K times just in the month of April alone! Those are huge numbers!

If you created your account a long time ago, you may be seeing Mastodon's advanced web interface (multiple columns). That interface has not been the default for years now. You can control which one you see from Preferences.

We have now collectively gained 112,413 monthly active users in the last few days, and 149,720 compared to the end of March. That's a 62% increase. Total now at 384K MAU across Mastodon.

Mastodon has gained 106,723 monthly active users since the end of March (when Elon bought 9.2% of Twitter's shares). 93,603 are new accounts. Overall that's a 42% increase in Mastodon's MAU.

Mastodon's monthly active user numbers have risen by 84,579 since the Twitter buyout story broke on Monday (and I do mean across the Mastodon network, not this server)

People don't have to be on the same server to follow you! Thanks!

Getting the official Mastodon apps out there was a massive undertaking. More than a year of ongoing design and development, and biggest team that we've ever had. Seeing how talented people bring your vision to life is honestly a real treat.

I got asked about this by somebody from WIRED so I got some numbers together. I believe that Mastodon servers have gained around 49,000 new people since March. Our iOS app downloads rose by 109%. On mastodon.social, I am seeing a 71% increase in sign-ups and 36% increase in monthly active users as people are coming back to their old accounts.

There's an uptick of sign-ups on mastodon.social larger than on the day Musk bought 9.2% of Twitter's shares (that's the other peak). I suspect similar graphs across the entire Mastodon network (at least I hope so!)
