    The soda tax had a huge impact on consumption where it was implemented and that was a minor price increase in comparison to the impacts of a carbon tax.

    More the point: I think a carbon tax could seriously affect Starbucks. Maybe lead to bankruptcy. Nobody's buying a $12 latte that isn't actually good, and certainly not daily anymore.

    Smaller third wave coffee shops could survive as their customers are used to paying a premium and don't treat the coffee drinks like soft drink replacements.

    You have to consider that this country benefitting off the labor of millions who we cannot exist without and who do not receive rights and protections afforded to the rest of the country smells a bit like slavery. We already know they get abused and mistreated.
