    there's a few wonderful ways to connect your wordpress blogs to the fediverse, so pleroma and mastodon can consume them

    (pleroma will do a much better job at consuming them however)

    * ActivityPub plugin by @pfefferle : https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/

    * Pterotype plugin by @jdormit : https://wordpress.org/plugins/pterotype/

    i should really sit down next weekend and clean everything up for pleroma 1.0 release, so that i can finish my "scope to lists" branch (diaspora-like aspects in AP), which is what followers-only scope should have been all along (but who cares about functional design anyway)

    the real reason why home servers failed is because the broadband ISPs blocked port 80 and 443

    I find it ironic that some have adopted the fediverse because they feel that the intelligence agencies aren't spying on them here, when it's trivial to intercept the messages as a third party

    I may be forced to resign from Alpine, because I cannot see an ethical path forward that allows myself to contribute to a product Microsoft consumes in their attempts to promulgate Linux to an “app you download from the Windows Store.”

    Where I am from, you don’t negotiate with terrorists, and Microsoft continue to terrorize many projects, companies and individuals with their software patent portfolio.

    There is a strong reason why at work, we will only ever touch free software when building solutions for our customers. This is because software freedom is the most important concern when providing infrastructure and solutions to the most vulnerable among us. Software freedom keeps them safe.

    To assist Microsoft in their efforts of promulgation is to assist them in their ongoing efforts to undermine software freedom. WSL is a trojan horse. It is not our friend, and we should not tolerate it’s consumption of our distributions.

    pleroma folks: update your instances NOW.

    there is a serious denial of service vulnerability that is trivial to leverage: if an attacker sends an otherwise valid Activity to us without a valid ID, pleroma will wind up inserting a node into it's object graph with an empty ID.

    if you cannot rebase your tree on latest, the necessary patches are here: https://git.pleroma.social/pleroma/pleroma/merge_requests/286.

    @Laurelai that thread made no damn sense to me. in 2000 you wouldn't have been been old enough to be involved in crimethinc.

    Plume also has really nice integration with Pleroma, as seen by this screenshot.

    write.as has, apparently, no integration with Pleroma because they implement ActivityPub wrong.

    also write.as integration even if it worked is one-way only.

    and again, write.as promises to publish their code someday, but that day is not today, so it's just #openwashing.

    that's not why.

    but i think we wound up banning the user that was causing the problem, so i will remove it.

    i've been watching pixelfed gain federation commits all day with excitement.

    i think that pixelfed is going to be even more #litepub than pleroma, which is funny because we started that whole thing

    so what is Pleroma about anyway?

    in a nutshell, it's about autonomy. it's about social media autonomy for every person on the planet. all 7.6 billion of us. nobody else telling us to do, what to say, and nobody else forcing us to see things we don't want to see.

    this means Pleroma is being built for an entirely new scale of fediverse: one with billions of nodes. it's also why Pleroma supports alternative transports such as TOR and I2P out of the box.

    it also is a major differentiator between Pleroma and Mastodon. in the Mastodon model, there's maybe a few million islands which host a few thousand people each. to contrast, in our model, everyone who wants to host their own instance does so. that means everyone can choose to have total social media freedom.

    but it's not just social media, we also intend to use the same underlying tech to enable real-time communications with the same capabilities as the social media side of things.

    and it's universal: different frontends for different preferences. like Mastodon but don't have the resources to run it? use Pleroma with Mastodon frontend and apps. like GNU social? Pleroma's default frontend was modelled after it. like diaspora* but want to talk to your fediverse friends? use Feather. like the alternative Mastodon frontends like Pinafore and Brutaldon? they work too.

    hate spam and harrassment? we have a mostly as yet untapped framework called MRF which can be leveraged to automate moderation of an instance.

    want to modify it? drop by #pleroma on freenode and we help with that too.
