I'm not a consumer law expert, but I'm guessing that anyone selling new phones with non-Google OSes preinstalled would have to provide tech support for that OS?

If it's something like Lineage there is a lot that can go wrong and it would take a lot of resources to support it.

They let the shortener provider follow other people's traffic, and if the provider disappears lots of links get broken.

But on Mastodon they are also pointless because they don't actually save you any characters.

And you can install @Carnet on Nextcloud (and your phone) to replace Google Keep.

Which option you choose depends on how technical you are 👍

Easiest is just sign up with a third party provider, there's a signup tool here:

(Note, this tool signs people up with a pool of third parties, it isn't signing people up on Nextcloud.com itself.)

Harder but slightly more independent is using a managed hosting provider:

Fairphone is about paying people a fair wage, i.e. more than the market rate.

The only reason people buy this hardware is specifically to give workers better working conditions.

If you're going to dismiss an initiative like this that people have dedicated years to building up, it would be nice to hear specific realistic actions that you would advocate instead.

Sure, but there are ethics to do with manufacturing hardware too (working conditions, conflict funding, child labour etc).

I said "tech fan" just because the process of installing an alternative OS is technically quite difficult, much more difficult than installing an OS on a computer :blobsad:
