I think they are focusing on the welfare of the very poor and vulnerable people who make the raw materials and components of modern smartphones.

But if you're a tech fan you can install alternative OSes on Fairphone 2, so presumably that will be possible for Fairphone 3:

    https://forum.fairphone.com/t/operating-systems-for-fairphones/11425

There's also Fairphone's own alternative OS, Fairphone Open:

KolourPaint is pretty good for simple stuff, like a FLOSS version of MS Paint.

What do folks use for lightweight photo editing software? I need to do some simple cropping, file size reduction to make thumbnails. I've used gimp in the past... #floss #alternatives @switchingsocial

Well, it depends on whether you trust your ISP or your VPN more.

Some ISPs (especially larger companies) have an official policy of selling metadata to advertisers.

This is a good question and it has come up before.

If possible, I would go for conventional bank transfers and payment cards. These tend to be heavily regulated, so there's some consumer protection.

Paypal is Peter "Palantir" Thiel's baby, Venmo's privacy is awful (they show all transactions publicly by default, most don't realise this) and that's sort of it AFAIK :blobsad:

They're centralised and for-profit. They say they will do nothing bad, and make a lot of noise about it in their marketing, but that's about as useful as Google's "do no evil" promise.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing either technically or legally to stop them turning into another Facebook.

I've just pretty much ignored them.

    @Gargron

Startups like Uber etc pretend they are gaining customers through innovation, but all they are really doing is buying market share by providing artificially cheap services, so they can run rivals off the road. When rivals disappear, prices go up.

Stable companies with sustainable business models that treat their employees well are being unfairly squeezed out of the market, unless they too start screwing workers and throwing money away. (See also Amazon and their pee bottles.)

Want to help make #Fediverse (#Mastodon) more useful for new people interested in #OpenStreetMap?

The #Trunk is several lists of people who post about a topic here on the fediverse. It's a good way for new people to get started by finding people who share their interest.

And now there's a list for OpenStreetMap folk! 🙂 If you toot a lot about #OSM and would like to help new people, request to be added to the list. Or use it to find other OSMers to follow.

You can see how complicated it is by looking for your phone on the list of Lineage compatible models, and then clicking on "installation instructions":

    https://download.lineageos.org/

For example, here are the instructions for installing on the Nexus 6:

    https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/shamu/install

Some people will be ok with this, but personally I find this too difficult.

    Yes.

They literally have and continue to profit from the dismantling of society and malicious psychological manipulation at the scale of billions.

Twitter too. Arguably without the billions part.
