Why would having standard battery sizes prevent device development?

The only reason manufacturers have weird sizes now is to lock down consumers into buying new devices prematurely, or to make money from extremely overpriced part replacements.

The Walkman (the first really significant mobile device) used standard size batteries, so did the first PDAs.

In fact all portable electronics used to use standard sizes until the mobile phone era.

Have you tried filling in your profile's metadata section?

You can add links, or even just random info, which appear as a table next to your public profile.

1. Click on "Edit Profile"

2. Go to "Profile Metadata" section and fill in one or more rows

3. (optional) To verify your ownership of a website, insert the verification code into your website's code. This will make verified links turn green on your profile with a tick next to them.

4. Click Save

If it's open and works offline, they can't get your data.

What worries me more are things like Mycroft that route everyone's queries through their servers. If they get bought, people's data is vulnerable.

Most online stuff can wait until you get to your computer, it's rare that you *have* to have a smartphone with you.

By the way, you might want to add https:// to your links so that people can click on them 👍

p.s. If you want your links to actually work on the metadata (or anywhere on Mastodon), make sure you type them in full, with "https://" at the beginning.

The "https://" disappears when it's posted, but Mastodon turns it into a working link first.

It's a great idea. Have you seen @funkwhale ? They are currently geared towards federating music on AP but they plan to add podcasting features too?
