Cool
How did you insert the code into your Twitter profile?

(I'm guessing you already made sure the backlink has rel="me" in it?)
One workaround could be to disable the tools, click "save changes" to trigger the checking, then switch the tools back on again.
As far as I know, it only checks at the moment you click save changes.

All it does is go to your public website and check if you've linked back to your account from it?

Mastodon doesn't have a direct system to verify users' identities.
However, if you own a website you can verify your identity as its owner ๐
1. Go to Preferences > Profile > Appearance
2. Scroll down to "Verification", copy the code and paste it onto the front page of your website
3. Add your website to "Profile Metadata"
4. Click "Save Changes"
That's it!
Your website address should now be verified in green on your profile ๐

That's pretty much what Google's recaptcha did originally, it helped convert old books into text with each captcha doing one word.
Then they decided to change it to train their driving/drone AI instead :/

I wonder if there's a case for some kind of public trust running it?
Using the same kind of funding model that a public broadcaster might have?

Also, does anyone know what happened to Matrix's instance/account?

p.s. I wish someone would force Google to go back to their original plan of transcribing public domain books, instead of feeding their drone AI.

I've started/boosted many threads about this, asking for suggestions, but apparently there are no obvious answers:

You could try Friendica?
It's compatible with Mastodon and the rest of the Fediverse, but has a more Facebook-style design.

Well... they all offer ways to install relatively well-established alternatives based on open standards. So maybe it doesn't matter who is a "market leader"?
I guess it depends on what you want to actually do, and what kind of resources/knowledge you have available.

@switchingsocial Whatโs a good Google Authenticator alternative for iOS? andOTP is Android-only, FreeOTP seems to have been more or less abandoned and Authy isn't open-source AFAIK
