If you're interested in alternative social networks, you might want to check out Manyverse:

    https://www.manyver.se

    You can follow it at:

    @manyver_se

It has no servers. Instead, connections happen peer-to-peer with user data stored on the user's own device.

It's still early days and tricky to use, but it's had lots of updates.

If server-based networks become compromised due to bad tech or bad laws, this could be an important "lifeboat".

Do you like Mastodon, but wish there was a privacy option to only post on your home instance without federating?

There's a fork of Mastodon for that called Hometown:

    https://github.com/hometown-fork/hometown

You can still post normal posts that federate, but Hometown also lets you post non-federating posts if you prefer.

It also has other differences such as rendering full articles from Write Freely (and other federated blogging services).

It's an interesting debate on there, thanks for the link.

(I'd tend towards allowing it as long as it's not default.)

    I agree.

Apparently some of the features first used in the Glitch fork were later added to main Mastodon.

Maybe "hometown posts" will appear in Masto itself at some point?

I think you're right, Glitch is mentioned in the link:

"I don't intend to stray very far from mainline Mastodon with this fork. If you want something that provides a ton of new features and widgets and stuff, the Mastodon Glitch Edition fork is a wondrous kitchen sink of major and minor tweaks."

    Hey there!

Among other things you can do to help the project, you can help us review the work being done by other contributors.

This is incredibly helpful to increase the quality of contributions, and it's also a good way to understand better how #Funkwhale works internally while improving your own skills, such as programming (Python, Javascript), webdesign, REST APIs, documentation and writing, databases, sysadmin, ansible, docker, automation, etc.

    ---

It's open to anyone, and you don't have to commit on anything: if you are interested, create an account on https://dev.funkwhale.audio and send me a message with your username and your areas of interest and I'll add you to the corresponding groups.

If, for any reason you want to stop, you can leave the groups on your own (or ask me to remove you).

    ---

When someone submits a contribution and want some reviews, they'll simply mention the corresponding groups. This is where you receive a notification.

Click the link, read the contribution and post one or more comments, if you have any:

    - Questions (even, and *especially* questions that might sound silly)
    - Improvements suggestions
    - Proof-reading
    - Feedback
    - Testing

If you have nothing to say, but want to let the contributor know you reviewd their work, you can also leave a thumb up.

Literally *any* of the above helps!

You don't have to review everything that is sent your way, and are also free to chose which contributions you are comfortable reviewing.

Thank you so much for your help!

    #BoostsAppreciated

Facebook Groups is a sort of forum with social networking features.

The main feature is a timeline that only the members can see and post to.
