Hey, .Art friends! I'd like to start a #peertube account to post my art stream recordings, and possibly other art-related videos in the future.
Can anyone recommend a good art-focused instance?

Diffu is a Free Software allowing authors to publish all kinds of texts or articles and to aggregate the reactions they generate on social networks, especially through #ActivityPub such as #Mastodon, #PeerTube, #Pleroma, #PixelFed, #Funkwhale, #Hubzilla, #GNUSocial ...
Diffu is a kind of free and federated alternative to #Medium or other applications that are not always easy to install.

ReToot are welcome 😉 !
#Fedilab 2.6 has been published. It's now possible to sign up with the help of an instances picker.
The upload feature has been fixed and the panel for custom features has been improved. It also fixes the automatic split feature.
Wow! 😮
I'm really sorry, I just don't think Hubzilla is easy enough for the kind of audience switching.social is aimed at.
I'm trying to reach people who use computers and phones but have no interest in computing or technology.
But this is exactly why I made switching.social CC By SA, so if people feel I'm doing something wrong or missing something out, they can do their own version.
It just gives me an error page with the elephant hitting a computer :/
I can't get this to open?
Does anyone know some good general Mastodon instances that are both open to new users and running 2.9?
I'm not sure, I don't have that many photos
Can anyone give advice about large volumes of pictures?
I found @nextcloud to be pretty good for photo storage and sharing? They have a good app as well to upload straight from phones.
Playing with Piwigo as a Google Photos replacement this morning. It's... ok, but I feel like it's going to be too hard to manage. Does anyone have a better recommendation? I really just want to be able to control my photo storage and be able to access from anywhere and share only with my wife.
do yourself a favor and avoid #spam by blacklisting this domain:
womenarestupid.site
some asshat is creating throwaway accounts and messaging random people with the same crap over and over
#mastoadmin #fediadmin (? what's the tag for admins who aren't running mastodon??)
@darckcrystale @omgubuntu @protonmail
Mastodon is part of the Fediverse?
Big props to @omgubuntu and @protonmail for putting Mastodon links on their website templates alongside their centralised social media links (see attachments) :blobcheer:
This is great for normalising the concept of decentralised social media 👍
If you have a Fediverse account, please do mention it on your website! The more people see these icons, the more comfortable they will be finding out more.
Also, some countries have different services they need alternatives to. I think someone was working on a Russian alternatives site that had alternatives to Russian network VK?
It would be brilliant to have a Turkish version! 👍
I don't use a repo because I'm not a developer. I think some of the forked sites have repos though?
I'm avoiding translations on switching.social itself because all the links on switching.social are to English language resources. If visitors can't understand english, the links probably aren't much use.
That's why I have the content under a CC By SA licence so that people can maintain their own sites in their own languages.

I'll try to add more tips about choosing a good instance, but I do already suggest some good general instances in the "where to sign up" section.
I don't think most people want to think about instances when they are taking their first steps onto federated networks.
They just want to be given an address to sign up at.
A lot of people start out on a general instance and move onto a specialised one after they get used to it.

My philosophy on switching.social is to keep new concepts to a minimum, so that people only have to try one new thing at a time.
If they only have to try one new thing, they are far more likely to try it.
My new concepts are that Fediverse doesn't use ads, so it's less likely to invade privacy, and if an admin does invade privacy you can easily switch to a different instance.
Centralised services are dangerous because you cannot switch without leaving the network.
