You like the #emoji picker of #Mastodon?

Actually, I took it and made it available as an add-on, so you can use it in the whole #Firefox :firefox:! 😃

    Check it out here:

I wish I could help but I'm not an expert on this, I'm not a developer or security researcher :(

As you say, it will be interesting to see what happens when Google tries to sabotage adblockers.

This is part of the reason for preferring Firefox and related browsers, though even there is the concern that they get a lot of income from Google.

The browser scene is pretty rubbish right now :blobfrown:

Just discovered CryptPad via the FLOSS Weekly podcast. Basically, Google docs without privacy concerns.

    CryptPad in their own words:

"CryptPad is a private-by-design alternative to popular office tools and cloud services. All the content stored on CryptPad is encrypted before being sent, which means nobody can access your data unless you give them the keys (not even us)."

    It's also Free software.

    https://cryptpad.fr/

Better still CryptPad is on the Fediverse:

    @cryptpad

I don't know much about it. It's based on Chromium which is a concern due to Google's dominance of its development.

However, there isn't a huge amount of choice these days.

Have you had good experiences with it?

The developer of Manyverse said something interesting like that. If I remember right he regards server-based social networks as cruise ships, but Scuttlebutt as a lifeboat (I think that's the quote...).

If something goes horribly wrong with server-based networks either technically or politically, Scuttlebutt would be an alternative way of communicating.

Brave is owned by Peter Thiel, the same guy who owns Palantir:

    https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2018-palantir-peter-thiel/

"Peter Thiel’s data-mining company is using War on Terror tools to track American citizens. The scary thing? Palantir is desperate for new customers."

Brave is part-owned by Peter "Palantir" Thiel through his Founders Fund venture capital firm.

They list FF at the top of their backers on their b2b site:

    https://basicattentiontoken.org

Thiel makes millions from spying on people and is on the board of Facebook. He's absolutely the wrong person to trust with privacy.

    Switching.social does NOT recommend Brave.

🤔 Is there any automated Android backup solution you know?
I am totally willing to pay for that service, as long as the client is FOSS and encrypts my data in a good manner.
Most importantly I want to backup the data on my internal storage, so files, images, videos as my Calendar, Mail, Contacts are IMAP/ICAL anyways.

Would be awesome if you could help me to find something like that!

You might want to give this feedback to @manyver_se

I'm not an expert but it sounds like you're following a "pub", and the other people on the same pub can see your public posts?

If you don't follow pubs, then your posts are only visible after following/following back. The trouble is that it's difficult to find people to follow without using pubs.

This is some of the stuff that Manyverse is trying to make easier I think.

That is pretty depressing. Even in 2007 Facebook was already violating people's privacy:

    https://www.wired.com/2007/12/facebooks-is-al/

"Amid heightened concerns surrounding Facebook's new advertising platform, the social networking site has given users a new reason not to trust it: "

"Researchers recently busted the company for tracking users activities on external sites, even after they logged out of Facebook."

No wonder Facebook carries on violating, they have got away with it for over 12 years! 😠

We did a lot of progress to reduce the bus factor lately, but most of the code is still owned and maintained by me.

I think one way to improve that situation would be to have some reviewers before I merge my contributions, to distribute ownership of the codebase on other people.

If you have some interest in HTML/JS/Python/CSS/Design/Docs, and want to help, do you mind adding your name here so I can ping you when relevant?

p.s. I should add, it's still early days for Scuttlebutt. It's not the easiest social network to use. It's worth trying if you can, but it still has a long way to go.

But it's a great concept, and Manyverse is being developed at a good pace, so it's worth following.
