@nerthos @dolus @8zu maybe college needs to be an exclusive thing again
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu a) not give a shit
b) praise darwin
c) smug
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos also ideally a degree shouldn't be a requirement in getting a job, but it's hard to change society..
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos that's a quick path towards mass resentment towards nerds. "why must we pay so that some smartass kid gets to go to school for free, what about my kid huh"
consider this instead, how about not running colleges like businesses (equally unlikely
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu i like to think silly bazinga show helped ease perceptions a bit, but if you're being forced to pay for yet another thing that doesn't really concern you,
-
@1iceloops123 @dolus @nerthos @8zu i don't think all of them are..
-
@histoire @dolus @nerthos @8zu nay, that's not enough
fries need 375 degrees
-
@nerthos @dolus oh @8zu meant social class, i thought it was like something from bakatest or something
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu today on basic econs we learn about: inflation
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos thing is, college shouldn't be an "extended high school" at all
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu yes what are you implying
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos plumbing actually pays pretty well if you're willing to get into it. doesn't require a degree
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu ok lad
-
@hakui @dolus @8zu TBH state funded university is completely possible. It's a thing here and no one complains, because the results speak for themselves. However that means you can't have 2500 universities all over the country, you need to have only a few that are state-run and let the rest be private and paid for. Here you can get into the private ones more easily the more you pay, or you can work really hard for the public ones, so a public university degree is worth more and everyone knows the person who has it earned it. Anyone who complains about "muh kid" is told to stop whinning because it isn't the state's fault that their kid is dumb.
Idiots will always resent their betters anyway, but that only matters if the state is weak enough to give a crap.
-
@nerthos @dolus @histoire @8zu :s/soggy/frozen/
-
@dolus @histoire @nerthos @8zu yeah, that's because they only have one degree
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos i think it's just one of those professions where there's no economic incentive to form a evil giant plumbing megacorp
-
@dolus @histoire @nerthos @8zu it was one from the very start?
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu point.
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos we're already seeing the trend though where "extended high school" causes degree inflation and people wanting to be ahead of the curve just go into grad school, which was initially meant for actual research
thus the decrease in quality of papers churned out in the recent years because people who weren't supposed to be there went there anyway
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu omg yes technical schools are so important, what i dislike about some societies is how they just overlook them entirely or deem those who go there as failures
i mean, yeah they're not that great academically, but that's not the only way you judge a person
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu maybe if "work vouchers" were given out to work that actually produced tangible benefits to society, as a new form of legal tender..
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu sometimes i feel that i won't mind moving into the country and planting rice in the morning
-
@dolus @nerthos @nerthos @8zu like, it doesn't have to be dirty work, food production etc are also considered, as long as it's not stuff like "wealth management" or some other abstract bullshit
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos @cutscenes it's just the new bubble. nothing much to say about that
-
@cutscenes @dolus @nerthos @8zu "finally, i've landed my dream job in NASA, programming mainframes that power rockets"
"what's this?"
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.2.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
"wtf"
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu i guess i was mistaken about the evil giant plumbing megacorp
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu you need to stop worrying about typos so much lad w
-
@cutscenes @dolus @nerthos @8zu this is also why i'm incredibly averse to UI/UX related jobs, because it's a moving goalpost
-
@dolus @nerthos @8zu @cutscenes no, like some edge case will eventually crop up, or something will eventually break
with static designs or other types of media once you send it off to the printer you're done
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos except, maybe, stuff like prostitution
*gets shouted at for digging up topics from half a day earlier*
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos point, i guess
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu you can start another one, i'm going to bed soon haah
-
@shpuld @dolus @nerthos @8zu @cutscenes i'd rather be paid to make sandcastles at the beach, won't run out of things to do either
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu oh, congrats!!
-
@8zu @dolus @nerthos oh let's talk about supernormal stimuli and sexbots
*gets shouted at for digging up yesterday's topics*
-
@nerthos @dolus @shpuld @8zu at least you had a few days' notice
two of my friends had a third friend that called them to tell them about his wedding that was just decided while they were out at a bar. they had to leave before the food came
-
@nerthos @dolus @shpuld @8zu that couple probably just don't have much impulse control
no idea how they're doing now though
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu or, it can be the same situation as universe 25, and what you described might not even be a thing even if the conditions are favorable again
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu as neat as some people think giant robots are it'd still be a pretty lousy legacy imo
-
@nerthos @dolus @8zu no, how about
like
not dying out
-
@moonman @dolus @nerthos @8zu john titor was right again
