Regarding Duke Nukem Forever leak: Yes, it's a bit sad to realize that literally 99% of the legendary 2001 E3 trailer is just tiny pre-staged chunks, BUT it's pretty astounding to see that most of it is actually functioning. Together with the amount of levels of the actual game, my impression is that they could have absolutely polished it off and released it in 2002-2003. There's just so much in there already.
And now Miller and Broussard are ripping into each other publicly, with Broussard being his usual bitchy self. At least Miller wasn't personally responsible for throwing out thousands of dev hours of work over and over again. And Broussard complaining that Pitchford and Miller aren't paying him for current Duke & Apogee games digital sales is pretty pathetic considering he got a lot of DNF team members by promising them profit sharing after release.
👆 This is the kind of shit i can't say over at birbsite, so if you were looking for my actual hot takes that don't refer to something not being better on the Amiga, actually, you're in the right place.
@MichaelKlamerus It's because they kicked him out. And the Scott was the one that publicly shared the stance. Scott also has a long history of throwing others under the bus. I'm sure he's also bitter because he lost two money making brands be was famous for. 3D Realms and Duke Nukem.
@dosnostalgic I thought it was interesting that Scott Miller doesn't seem to be too fond of the new 3D Realms. I suspect he dislikes them for different reasons than I do (the weird free speech stance they took when homophobic jokes were found in Ion Maiden) but I think this is the first time I've seen him mention it. https://www.apogeeent.com/devblog/dnf-truth
Also George seems like he's trying to pivot to making adventure games and ahhhhh please don't
@dosnostalgic I heard so much bad stuff about 3DR over the years - they paid people like crap and dangled the "duke bucks" royalty scheme in front of them, were terrible at project management, were an immature frat house even in comparison to the ambient sexism of the late 90s / early 00s industry, and they gave other devs pretty shitty deals and scott took credit for anything that wasn't nailed down. i hope this fight drags on and the two of them make each other look as bad as possible.
@jplebreton I'm honestly surprised that both of them still have any following at all. Scott is famous for the repeatedly throwing everyone under the bus, and George is known for just being shitty 24/7. I know he started encouraging a bunch of indie devs a couple of years ago, but I didn't expect that to generate so much good faith.
@dosnostalgic but did he actually share the profits? I used to follow Broussard on Twitter, it had some interesting takes on indie game pricing and game dev on general, then there was some stupid polemic about the number of followers he had and I had the impression he was just an a-hole, so I unfollowed.
@Blackthorn the game didn't come out, and his company went under. He didn't share anything. Him bitching at people they didn't have anything important to say because of their number of followers is how I found out I had more followers than him. I unfollowed him a decade ago.
@Blackthorn What I meant by that toot is that it's pathetic *for* Broussard to complain about royalties because he himself screwed over dozens of devs by promising them royalties instead of a decent salary for their work on DNF.
