     My personal experience (as a maintainer) is actually pretty good.

     Yes, there was the occasional spam-PR in previous years, but I've also received several dozen of valuable and perfectly fine pull requests from new contributors.

     @wolf480pl @fribbledom The good news is, hacktoberfest is now opt-in. On top of that, it only takes two PRs get labeled invalid, and then the person is disqualified.

     So here's hoping for less bullshit PRs than in past years!
