Do you notice slowdowns on your mastodon instance? Some lag when loading images? Please consider migrating your mastodon account to some smaller servers, many of them have decent resources available and using them instead, helps to achieve true decentralization. Help to make the network healthier! You can check this list of servers scored by health, security and software version --> https://instances.social/list/old#mastodon#decentralization#fediverse#health
In fact i'm sure you can find a server that is better scored that your actual server, with less users and federating with at least 5000+ other instances...
@santiago In order to achieve true #decentralization of the #fediverse, one should not forget that there are hundreds/thousands of servers other than mastodon and these other projects also have their own lists from which to choose based on the size of the server and its health. E.g. #friendicahttps://dir.friendica.social/servers
@santiago I've been thinking about this. When I first signed up for Mastodon in April 2017, I chose one of the largest instances, thinking that there would be more commitment on the part of the owner(s) and more stability. That wasn't the case, as it soon had performance issues. (I believe it's better now, though.)
I then started an account on the original instance (that's the account where you and me first started chatting). I still chose a large instance because I noticed a lot of people notifying their followers they were switching accounts/instances because their instance was shutting down.
So I would say performance is one issue, but don't rule out longevity. Is there somewhere you can mention how long your instance has been around? Sort of like businesses that put "Since 19XX" on the signs on their storefront. That may help show your commitment to your instance.
