"Federated social media software #Mastodon had an impersonation vulnerability that was patched last week. More than half the instance admins patched it in less than 24 hours. I enjoyed the comment from Elliott Wilkes, chief technology officer at Advanced Cyber Defence Systems, saying “there's just not the same investment in security because there's not massive revenue supporting the platform, and each owner of an instance has to perform security management on their own” as I look wistfully in the direction of Microsoft and its massively lucrative portfolio of security binfires." Bugs were reported by German #pentesting outfit #Cure53 during a #Mozilla-requested audit. https://www.theregister.com/2024/02/02/critical_vulnerability_in_mastodon_is/#fediverse#socksup

Yup, MATE hits that sweet spot of "Customized, Functional, NoFutzing" for me.
When Ubuntu came out with Unity after the Gnome2 desktop I added the MATE desktop, which imported most Gnome2 settings. Linux Mint's LMDE with MATE kept those settings, which have persisted through Ubuntu-MATE and now Debian with MATE.
Anyone know if the MATE folks are in the #Fediverse?
I can't believe that a product from Meta is going to interoperate with the #fediverse:
"Our vision is that Threads will enable you to communicate with people on other fediverse platforms we don’t own or control. This means that your Threads profile can follow and be followed by people using different servers on the fediverse."
It's very strange to me, seeing Mammoth get so popular somehow over the past few days. Given that a lot of their features, IceCubes did first, it's just kinda weird. Just saying.
Not to mention, IceCubes is free, although it's always good to tip the developer; had better icons to choose from, for free; and generates Alt Text for your images on demand.
