@codewiz let us know how it goes. I'm using #manjaro #gnome on my laptop, but I used #KDE #Plasma in the past. I always found it great out of the box and buggy when changing something from the defaults. I always wondered if it was because of the underlying distro (I was using PopOS that never officially supported Plasma) or because of Plasma itself.

@neffscape That's right, it's quite buggy and they're aware of it. In Nate Graham's own words:

The #Manjaro live image booted quickly and effortlessly in UEFI mode, bringing me to a plain #KDE #Plasma desktop (which is good).

The kernel in the live image is 5.15.60 (an LTS kernel), and KDE is 5.24.6, which is quite outdated.

As expected, WiFi, GPU and sound work perfectly out of the box. If this isn't your usual experience, learn to pick your hardware more wisely, or stop using outdated distros.

I'm downloading #Manjaro with the #Plasma desktop.

It's one of the few #Linux distros that positions #KDE and #GNOME on the same level, and I want to see how's the out-of-the-box user experience.

@sageofredondo Sorry to hear that. I'm assuming you are wanting to use XFCE on an older machine?

Have you looked at #KDE ? You are probably well aware that it's not as resource hungry as lot of people imagine. I've seen some comparisons with #XFCE and they seem to have similar memory usuage.

I've found #Fedora #KDE to be a good #KDE distro and it appears the #Wayland issue may have been sorted out.

I heard that users with #Nvidia cards have been having a hard time with bugs on #Wayland, on both #GNOME and #KDE. Proprietary drivers are harder to support, stay away!

@benoit @makuharigaijin I've been using the #KDE #Plasma #Wayland session for over 1 year now. The number of bugs has steadily gone down, and now it's on par with X11 except for saving and restoring window positions, a longstanding unimplemented feature.

Fedora 37 is out with the latest Plasma Desktop 5.26 and GNOME 43.
