arteteco (arteteco@qoto.org)'s status on Saturday, 14-Dec-2019 09:09:57 UTC arteteco This was a very dense topic. I managed to read most of it, but I'm still having a hard time figuring out the core of the discussion,
I don't think we should invite users to not list posts. We could invite them to not public posts at a 3 seconds rate, but that's it.
Also, about STEM, I'm totally with freemo. I study in a scientific field, I am in a lab most of the week, but when I write here I don't feel like always talking about it.
I just like to know that the people in the instance are somewhat similar to me, as an approach to things, the sense of humor, the sensibility in general. That doesn't mean the ideas, the opinions, the alignment at all, but the approach we can use to talk about it. It's like the coffee machine outside of the lab. Also I think that posts about etiquette should be shorter, I have a hard time going through all this messages =D

I'm a free speech lover and I like this place to be a platform for our users to get in touch with as much as they want of the fediverse, as long as there is no **active** harassment of any of us.
The rest is up to the users and the clients, they have a lot of power in carving their own informational niche, and that one of the big reasons why AP exists in the first place.
I understand that people may not be familiar with the technology, which has never had this scale of usage, but if you want freedom and independence is it too much to ask that you just search "mastodon how to silence instance", or whatever you may need?We as mod are also always here to answer doubts and help our users to get the best out of this place, but no, I personally would never take the arrogant decision of what is good or bad for others to be exposed to.
Please, @evaristus , if we want to talk about it in a serious way could you please open a topic on discourse? We encourage this kind of discussion and it would be easier for anyone to follow.

Either you already know that or you have no clue what's happening, I'm flabbergasted. It was recommended to me from an online biology course I'm taking with the MIT. -
arteteco (arteteco@qoto.org)'s status on Wednesday, 18-Sep-2019 15:43:32 UTC arteteco #podcast Wednesday: You are not so smart is a brilliant podcast about the research behind decision making, biases, how people change their minds, tribalism, how you fool yourself and confabulate post hoc reasons for your behaviour and more.
Personally, I'm a long time fan and it changed my perception of my self in a decisive way. Way more humble about how sure I am about my ideas.
Give it a shot!

arteteco (arteteco@qoto.org)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Sep-2019 06:48:46 UTC arteteco #podcast Wednesday. It sucks there is no weekday or even month name starting with P.
Evolution Talk is a podcast, who'd guess, about evolution.
Rick coast is pretty a passionate host. Even if the topic was well known, like convergent evolution or natural selection, I had fun with the trivias and the anecdotes.
Oftentimes the topic has however been new to me, like who Robert Chambers or Diderot were.
To be frank a few episodes are a bit devoid of real content, but seemed to me like the exception rather than the rule.

arteteco (arteteco@qoto.org)'s status on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2019 19:55:59 UTC arteteco #podcast suggestion:
I just started to listen to "Species", where every week Macken talks about a species of animal.
Unlike many other informative pieces of podcast I listened to, this is very entertaining, with fun bits of info and a very story like way of delivering juicy, hard checked facts.
I was captured from the very first episode, the Opossum. -

arteteco (arteteco@qoto.org)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Aug-2019 14:51:58 UTC arteteco I would like to follow my professor profile on instagram. Also, there are a couple of twitter accounts I like, and some places on facebook that only post there their events.
I could do an account for each of the places I'd like to get info from but frankly, beside the hassle, it would be time consuming to just go in every website every time to check.
Ah, if there only was a technology that allowed us to, oh I don't know, "aggregate" the news... so that I get something like a notification when something happens, and it could even download the content.
Oh, that would be so nice, I'm sure everybody would use it.

I just switch from a simple feed reader to antennapod, available at #fdroid, and I am quite happy with it, but especially for searching new podcasts I'd like to know if there is something else you'd recommend.
