    @moonman @deadsuperhero I agree with that. Signal has problems but isn't the worst offender. I've never actually used Telegram, but the reports are that it has fake crypto and a closed centralized server. Someone said it only has transport encryption by default and so most messages exist in plaintext on the Telegram server and can be read by whoever.

    OTR/OMemo over GS/Mastodon is not so great because the typical user interface is web, which is delivered from a central party that can deliver you busted or malicious E2E code. unless you use a third party client you can trust for other reasons.

    Also definitely don't roll your own crypto. There are existing libraries/tools out there which have had a lot of review.
