@maiyannah @deadsuperhero I think Friendica has native support for Diaspora federation, so it may also be worth locating that code to see if it's useful. -

I don't know much about Salmon, and it's the worst thing ever to search for unless you're looking for fish. Here's an overview.

@maiyannah @pettter @sonya @deadsuperhero probably better to let the user decide what secure IM they prefer to be contactable via. Also don't underestimate the amount of effort it takes to build a new secure system, even if you have the OMEMO code to start off with. -

@maiyannah @pettter @sonya @deadsuperhero this is why I think it would be better to keep things simple. Have a field for XMPP or Tox address on the user profile, and a button for "contact me directly". Existing apps can then handle the security. -

@maiyannah @deadsuperhero one thing to consider with any !gnusocial OMEMO implementation is where the keys reside. If the server has all the keys and you have enough users then this will attract the Five Eyes of Sauron. -

@katiekats As Gabriel Morton joked:
"A younger me's eyes would have lit right up, if you told me that in the distance space future, I would be followed by sexbots. Nowadays, its *groan*, another one." -

@maiyannah @deadsuperhero sounds like a good plan. If you want to do stuff in the background there are Python and C reference implementations for OMEMO. -

I liked this comment by @joedakroub "A thought occurred to me that 2017 has been the year that people are going back to the spirit of what the Web was always meant to be. In the field of development, people are using site generators/version control to deploy static sites. Decentralized platforms such as this are returning us to more open communities before commerce took over everything. Brutalist design is shrugging off sparse, perfect design for experimental ideas that we were doing during the 90s. It's really fun to see this!"

@strypey I don't, and I'm no longer on the primatemind domain. Maybe I'll use it for something else. -

@chimo Probably easy to take that and properly modularize it as @bob describes.
Bounty offer stands for anyone who does and then makes it display in the Qvitter UI. -

@maiyannah might be good to have something like:
That way there's the flexibility that if new communication systems arrive the database is still somewhat futureproof.comms_type1, comms_address1 comms_type2, comms_address2 -

#pgpday offer: if someone makes a plugin that does this in postActiv (adds fields to the user profile for XMPP address, and PGP key) and a patch for Qvitter that integrates it on the front end, I will pay you $20 (by paypal)

@archaeme ideally I'd like things such as PGP key and XMPP address to be fields in the database, so that UI functionality could then build on that. -

@stopgap @lnxw48a1 @u2764 So here's a crazy idea. On the entry page of Qvitter there's a field for text describing the server. If that became standardised and then aggregated a new user could perhaps scroll through the list looking for the best server to join. -

@bob I recently helped a local business set up a private pA instance for internal communication, which was interesting to do and see. There is growing interest in owning your own tools for communication, and this is a good thing. -

What if Trump were to get onto the fediverse? Well, although I think the man is an idiot of the first order he could have his own whitehouse instance and rant on there for as long as he wants. So long as I don't have to listen to it then that's ok. -

@cyberpotato precisely, and I've seen that happen a few times. Given enough IRC history any phrase can be cherry picked as an example of being "inappropriate". -

As a COURTESY, not required, if you block my instance I would like to know so that I can be salty about it for 15 minutes, then sad. We treat these things appropriately.

The deletionist has removed the #OStatus section from #Mastadon (software) on Wikipedia again. Can anyone find "secondary references"?
