@waha06x36 @Gargron <a href="https://some.example/tags/microformats" rel="tag">verbose microformats category tag</a>
»Tags are embedded in HTTP URIs in a well-defined manner so that the tag embedded in an HTTP URI can be mechanically extracted from that URI. Specifically, the last segment of the path portion of the URI (after the final "/" character) contains the tag value.» - http://microformats.org/wiki/rel-tag
There you go. !ostatus doesn't require it, but HTML generated by !gnusocial aims to honour #microformats2 since it's great and makes us part of the !indieweb community. -

@Gargron This however defeats the feature of using the platform as a feed reader. Just because someone is not popular they shouldn't be restricted in reading news/updates.
How many do you think someone should be allowed to subscribe to per own subscription? -

I run !GNUsocial with php7 at least. Not sure what you're asking? -

We've got (buggy) @#peoplelists for that in !GNUsocial. Just not the "blindly trust remote admins to be perfect moral individuals and expert sysadmims" aspect of it all. -

@Gargron We've also got a dropdown list in !GNUsocial for mentioning groups. But in that case it turns into a UI/UX issue because sometimes you want to ping multiple groups at the same time (which is impossible in the Facebook-style "Group" or "Page" mindset). -

@Gargron @fermuch I most certainly hope noone's calling the _network_ for !GNUsocial .)
(a GNU network would be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNUnet and is unrelated, other than being part of the GNU project, to anything we're doing here .D) -

Interesting communication on the #social IRC channel. Not sure where this came from or why or if it's just a prank or what:
1759 < daynaskully> ok so i have a mastodon instance up and added 250,000 fake users. Should i add it to the instance list to help inflate adoption numbers or what?

@HerraBRE I totally support the feature in a closed network (private, non-federating) which !GNUsocial can be used for as well.
If the feature is used in a federated environment where people choose instances by random from a huge list I would only accept its use if it has a big <marquee>WARNING</marquee> -

@nepfag Implementing as a plugin wouldn't be a problem. You could always run a non-federating !GNUsocial instance because you _want_ a private setting with follower scopes and whatnot.
I just think it's not appropriate to patch on pseudoprivacy in a federated web. Better to educate about and improve other tools more appropriate for the task(s). -

@HerraBRE I honestly don't understand this "gotta have 'em all" regarding features. Instead of trying to copy Facebook and Google+, I believe we should build something that works on its own terms. What's next "private photo albums"?
Please, let's enlighten users and encourage + support tools that do their jobs properly.
Instead of having your private communication _on_ the platform, how about using federation as an authentication method to _access_ it somewhere else? #OpenID works great for logins on third party servers to access more private data. Automating and consolidating everything under a single roof (heard about centralisation?) is not an answer.

@herrabre No, the URI of an author is always portable. It is unrelated to anything and should be treated as a random string (some use it for discovery, but that is Bad(tm) and discovery is made not _from_ a URI but _of_ a URI (i.e. you find n advertised URI for an acct:user@whatever.example and then apply some verification method you trust).
It is actuallt just by chance that URIs in !GNUsocial are http URLs. -

So everyone remember: latest !GNUsocial nightly _requires_ you to run the upgrade.php script as documented in UPGRADE procedures.
Always do that regardless if I say so or not .)
