@tagomago As I approach retirement age, I *still* have a recurrent dream where I've just started a university course (usually in maths) and I don't understand a word of it. I had that one as recently as last night, complete with a page of handwritten notes that meant nothing to me at all.

@bob Something you can do free of charge (and which we really need to get round to): defrost your freezer. The less ice there is insulating the cooling pipes from the food, the fewer hours per day the motor has to run.

@tagomago @swiff It's no better in the UK. I visited a big supermarket yesterday -- Saturday lunchtime, peak hours, very crowded. I saw one other customer wearing a mask.

People still have not understood that when no one else is wearing a mask, that's when it's more important than ever for you to wear yours.

I started using click & collect early in the pandemic, but I found that they don't pick the same fresh produce that I would pick. So now I find myself nipping into the supermarket for bananas, cauliflower and red cabbage, and then driving 100m to the click & collect point for the rest of the fresh produce and everything else. I *guess* I'm still reducing my infection risk, but it doesn't half feel silly. 🙂

@tagomago @chiasm I'd really like to know more about all those subjects. As the owner and user of a brain, I'm interested in how it works and how to get the best out of it for as long as possible. Do say what you can.

@tagomago @matt In my limited dealings with Japanese people and a couple of short visits to that wonderful country, I got the clear impression that they went out of their way to avoid making a fuss or drawing attention to themselves. The Japanese people I've known wouldn't make a fuss about insomnia even if it were consuming their every waking thought.

@tagomago @matt My average for the last fifty years has been five to six hours. Am I exhausted? How would I even know? Is this not just what being alive feels like?

I'd add:

Test your site using a 2G or 3G mobile connection.

Test it on Firefox.

Test your site with privacy-protecting extensions, such as uBlock Origin, Ghostery and Privacy Badger. If you can, test it with Pi-Hole.

Test it with the Dark Reader extension, because we don't all enjoy being punched in the eyes.

Test it after deleting all your cookies, because that's the first experience people have, and first impressions last. If it's a confusing mess of popups, sort it out.
