Fuck yeah, federated comments now work properly on #Hubzilla articles: https://deadsuperhero.com/articles/dsh/suggestions-happier-life
There's some UX to figure out still, but at the very least it works.

Holy fuck, #Craigslist just shut down their personals.

For people developing #fediverse bots: what tool did you use to write/set up your bot, and where did you host it?
#PeerTube Releases v.1.0.0 Beta 1 - Personally, I'm super stoked about this project and all of the strides it's making.

Want to see a decentralized video hosting site?! I sure do! Check out this run-down of #PeerTube, an awesome new video platform that supports #ActivityPub
Thanks to @Chocobozzz for developing such a great piece of software. It's really cool to see where this is going!
#Mastodon really needs a groups feature, preferably one that is compatible with OStatus groups. #Diaspora needs one, too.
These kinds of communication relays are actually really useful in community-building. In a microblogging environment, it's a powerful feature that Twitter doesn't offer.
Facebook buys out fediverse
Do #GNU hackathons happen frequently in any part of North America?
I spent way too much time making this. #Clippy #fediverse https://social.nasqueron.org/media/XFCiGamKa8Suqs4H8nc
WHAT THE FUCK
@moshpirit I think you're onto something here.
Imagine getting White Nationalists to drink what they assume to be GMO-Free Hitler Saliva, in large quantities. Only to learn later that it was full of GMOs and didn't even come from Hitler.
@DenubisX There could be some fragmentation of the commons, but it all depends on how one thinks of it. Though some spaces will be unreachable to others, the utility of the commons will probably be more accessible between instances who maximize sharing.

@maiyannah I think the main benefit he's trying to sell is mindshare between projects.
Issue here: https://github.com/diaspora/diaspora/issues/7422
Also, AP does have the added benefit of including server-to-server as well as server-to-client API implementation.
Oh boy, Evan Prodromou (of #StatusNet / #Pump / #OStatus fame) showed up on #Diaspora's GitHub Issue tracker and asked that we support #ActivityPub
It's a nice thought, and hopefully we can do that in the long term. But some part of me is apprehensive about the spec and the leg work it will take to support it.
There are certain unanswered questions, such as "Will ActivityPub support Diaspora's federated privacy controls?"
@strypey @mike Mike has a seasoned background in developing and advancing many of the core concepts of federated networking. In that time, he has seen and put up with a lot of bullshit from people.
He is a wellspring of knowledge, but occasionally comes across as abrupt and possibly grumpy. Ultimately, he means well, and if you're patient with him, he'll occasionally drop extremely good insights.
Blocking him would be a mistake.
@maiyannah @rysiek Honestly, Pump itself is a garbage prototype running on hyped technologies (Node + MongoDB). It has been unmaintained for years, and the few contributions it does get are incredibly infrequent. The app is just plain bad all around.
The real value of the thing is ActivityPub, which I have yet to see implemented in the wider fediverse. I'm still waiting to see what comes out of cwebber's involvement with W3C SocialWG and #Mediagoblin.
@1iceloops123 @yoz @sonya @rustyk5 You're right, but the funny thing is that federation will just continue to work right around those roadblocks, just as it always has.
Those who want islands get their own contained spaces. Those who don't can federate right around those pockets of isolation and not even notice those people.
The real issue is that someone better work on a good migration tool.
@strypey @mjd The remarkable thing about this, though, is that the federation has to some level been able to sufficiently self-organize over the years.
The addition of a new app that can federate with a good chunk of it actually is a testament to federation itself, and validates that it not only works, but can work well enough to make the model more appealing.
@sim Here's a small chunk of history. Second half has yet to be published. I was originally doing syndication through the federated web as a form of news coverage, after the loss of my server, I'd have to pick up the pieces again.
