Since it's Indy Day, I like to remember one of the lesser Lucasarts titles: Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis action game (not the adventure) from 1992. Developed by UK company Attention to Detail, it is often considered to be the worst game published by the company in the 1990s and is now basically forgotten.
Don't believe this has ever been made public, but the role of the Phantom in point and click adventure Return of the Phantom was played by... Sid Meier. The designer of the game told me they offered him the part and, after some convincing, he agreed. The make-up took several hours but, apparently, Sid had fun.
@dosnostalgic sure that sounds about right for the time, but I still haven't been able to find an actual release of the game, which is strange since CTO was a big publisher at the time (they had Lucasarts games too), so if it was released in Italy they printed very few copies either way
One of the lesser known Coktel Vision point and click adventures (which means quite an obscure title on its own), Bargon Attack was an early example (1992) of FMV in-game. Despite this being an Italian ad, I'm not sure if the game was even released outside of France and Spain.
@dosnostalgic yep, definitely feels like it. Perhaps if they left the movie parts to an *actual director* it would've been at least a better movie, if not a better game, but as it was, that project failed at both movie and FMV adventure. Also they also left lovely poop jokes easter eggs in. Because Sierra.
@dosnostalgic@SpindleyQ hmm not many come to mind, I mean they were just as illogical, filled with plot holes and scenes that make you go "huh?". Unless it's Démoni, that one is just plain stupid fun. But anyway, the thing that I realized about Phantasmagoria, after replaying it a few months ago, is how it does not feel like a 7 CDs game at all. Not even for 1995.
@SpindleyQ@dosnostalgic from what I heard they were planning to make a FMV adventure game that felt like playing a horror 80s b-movie. If that was the intention, they nailed that perfectly: it's a mediocre FMV horror adventure game in all regards. Even the "famous bathroom scene" fits in there. Granted, I'd have expected differently since it was written by a woman but, okay.
Sometimes I randomly remember the 1993 French adventure game Black Sect by Lankhor having two whole manual chapters dedicated to "sexuality in sects" (or how to practice safe sects) and "the role of women in sects". Apparently sects were a big topic in France back then, but the game takes place in the 12th century and the sect is just a mere pretext in the story so hmm... strange.
