The Global Peace Index for 2022 has some interesting results. It apparently measures the most peaceful countries. I don't know how accurate it is, but it would be interesting to compare a few more of these rankings/surveys to see if there's a general consensus.

    https://www.visionofhumanity.org/maps/#/

Some countries of interest to me were:

    12. Canada
    30. Taiwan
    38. Costa Rica
    46. Uruguay
    55. Chile
    69. Argentina
    77. Paraguay
    81. Dominican Republic
    89. China
    129. USA
    130. Brazil

One thing I would like to ask, though, is about the Ecological Threat Report (another link on that same website). It gives Uruguay a 5 under Natural Disasters (you have to specifically select Uruguay on the Countries dropdown list). Is that an error on their part, or do they know something that I don't?

I don't think it's true. Even if he did tweet and delete it, it's highly unlikely he'd use that style of quotation marks.

What I use is similar to the one on top with the black handle: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_razor

I did a search on Mercado Libre and found some blades to try, too.

It would be impossible to order my regular soap, balm, and aftershave off the internet, so I'd have to bring it with me in my suitcase whenever I travel. But I was curious about a local alternative.

@santiago I'm just curious, even though I'm not in the country. Shaving is a bit of a thing for me. The soap, cream, and balm are supposed to be lavender-scented. Do you know what the aftershave smells like?

I mostly use double-edge safety razor blades, but I do have two straight razors and the stones to hone them on. I'm just not very good at it, so I haven't don't it in a very long time. 😞

Are Dr. Selby shaving soap, shaving cream, and aftershave balm quite common in Uruguay? Are they any good?

    ¡Gracias!

Tengo algunas preguntas más sobre los verbos en español rioplatense.

¿Son estos los significados más comunes para estos verbos?

    guardar - to keep
ponerse - to put on (clothes)
tener que - to have to
pasar - to pass, to happen
    suceder - to happen
devolver, to give back, to return

¿Cuál es más común? ¿O depende de la situación?

to borrow - pedir prestado, prestar

    ¡Gracias a todos!

Is Uruguay in danger of becoming as fractious socially and politically as the US currently is?

    ¡Hola! Tengo algunas preguntas más.

Can I use "caminar" for "to walk"?

Does "andar" mean "ride" a bicycle or "get on" a bicycle?

And, how do I say "get on" and "get off of" a bicycle? How do I say "get on" and "get off of" a bus?

    ¡Gracias!

Is Uruguay in danger of adopting an American style of society? I've always felt Canada was a decade behind the US in terms of social attitudes, which has me a little reluctant to move back there until the US sorts itself out.

Is it really that bad in Uruguay? I was under the impression Uruguay was a role model for Latin America in terms of government transparency and accountability, as well as having a large middle class.

Tengo una pregunta sobre el español rioplatense.

I want to make a list of the most common verbs in Spanish, and then I want to conjugate them in the present tense and create Anki flashcards. This will require a bit of work, so I want to make sure my list of verbs is correct before doing all that work. I found two lists and combined them, but there seems to be some duplicate meanings (in English, anyway).

Of these two lists, are there any words that you don't use in Rioplatense Spanish? If so, what words do you use instead? (You can add suggestions for additional verbs if you think there's something important I have missed.)

I apoligize if it's difficult to read. Neither my camera nor my penmanship are top quality.

    ¡Gracias!

    FA = Frente Amplio???

These right-left cycles are to be expected. It's the extremism of certain elements of the modern right and left which is worrisome.
