How are you all doing today? Been to the zoo again, but this time to the indoor pools. was nice, my kids love it there.
Now we're baking the usual Saturday pizza, and cake for dessert as well.
Going to be a really nice day :) -

@bob I had some strange issues with my 'stable' debian install, it locked up my machine completely when I was compiling software. I then upgraded it to stretch and it all compiled \ worked fine. So I'm very pleased with it. -

Tomorrow some people are fixing the siding on my house, I've been saving up and holding on to the cash for a long time now, going to be good to get that fixed, then I do not have to worry about the rotten wood there any more. -

@hermitninjamonk yes, still run https://diasporapod.no . I'm doing fine, lots of stress at work (been working a lot) so I've been a bit silent lately. Spent freetime at the camper with my family :) -

Been building software tonight, blender was being a pain in the ass to build, but I think now it was a missing dependency that caused it.
Next up is building the 2.1 branch of Ogre engine, then I can get started on what I wanted tonight. -

@lnxw48a1 indeed, it does thread it.
I notice the ram usage is high on that too. I guess it's hard to get around that on modern browsers then.
Even though it's also using a fair bit of ram with pages loaded - it's low on startup, not that that helps. But - one point that I feel is important for me at least - is that firefox feels sluggish on all my machines, chromium based browsers often feels more snappier, it feels faster when navigating around \ typing \ scrolling - etc. (I guess there are some stresstests online that one car run to prove it). -

@marsxyz I did have that version. I do not want google's tentacles on my computer either, which is why I chose iridium - https://iridiumbrowser.de/index.html#about -

@vegos Could also be addons. but I do not have any addons I want to be without, so it's still high. Been thinking about moving away from firefox for a long time, so now seems to be the time to do so. -

Firefox uses 500MB RAM opening a site.
300MB RAM just opening firefox with blank page.
Iridium (chrome based) uses 67mb RAM when opening the same site.
And 44mb RAM when opening a blank page. -

After running Manjaro for weeks - I have now gone back to debian.
I have nothing bad to say about Manjaro, but debian still feels like home, so I decided to go back.
Got all my software set up now the way I like it, ready to rock.
Tonight I'm just playing some games, kids just went to bed, so now I have some hours of 'me' time :)
Also just tested witcher 2 that I bought on gog here the other day, and it runs super smooth! Very pleased with that purchase, well worth the money. My gog library is quickly filling up.. -

In 6.5 hours its back to the daily grind, glad they fixed the cappuccino machine at work, gonna need it when I get in tomorrow morning. -
