FYI! Seems like there is some issues at the datacenter we have our servers on. This impacts pretty much all services accept for disroot.org site, xmpp, matrix, email and nextcloud. Also seems like the other server where we host state.disroot.org is affected 🙁 I hope this is going to be fixed soon.

In short nope. We fell in love with hubzilla which we are working on with number of folks in the disroot community to bring it up to a state where on-boarding is easy. Hubzilla federates to mastodon, and pretty much entire fediverse (diaspora, friendica, etc) plus does crazy amount of other things and provides nomadic identity which is simply genius.
Plus there is so many mastodon instances that there is definitely enough to choose from.

We run off of our own hardware so its hard to get things like storage cheap (petabytes) if you need to pay for entire hardware yourself. At least at this stage of the project (check the donation page). We play on the safe side there because we dont want to deplete the resources too quick, plus our price for say 1TB has no match to commercial offering. However you can always drop us a line if you want more storage and we can see what can we do and for how much.

"For anybody who is using Ubuntu and got the Thunderbird 60 update and now is no longer able to use Lightning

The solution is to remove Lightning, then run "sudo apt install xul-ext-lightning" to then get the correct version of lightning and your calender should still be intact."

@TakuyaSama Just spoke with @massimiliano who is the author of the app. He seemed to be faster solving then us both reporting to him :P It's been fixed yesterday so as soon as the fdroid builds new version it will be solved and available in upcoming update

Thanks for the feedback. Would be interesting to know what phone/OS is it and if you have for example K9 already intalled or not. Also does it crash when trying other apps?

🦄 Matrix will be down tonight 🦄

After the history purge of all public rooms we did last night we are planning to re-gain some disk space to see what the overall gain has been. For that we need to run a full vacuum on the database. To be on safe side since the tables will be locked for the time of the vacuum we will put the matrix server down. This operation might take few hours (hopefully not as long as last 24hours downtime), however it might be, so be patient.

Seems like the janitor process is taking much longer then anticipated. Apart from removing redacted messages form the database (normally they are still stored for no good reason), we are removing traces of empty rooms (those are stored in the database too). We havent done it in a while so we are dealing with a lot of forgotten rooms. We hope janitor will finish its tasks soon so we can put the matrix back online and start purging public rooms history, while you guys can continue chatting.

In about 1 hour we will be performing some janitor maintenance (cleaning up empty rooms, deleting redacted messages etc). Also tonight we will be performing history purge on all public rooms. We will remove history older then 4 months.

Thats because how the federation works. You need to share with the account and you will only see items posted after you connected with the account.
