Another SCCAN member brought a well preserved collection of American magazines dedicated to #Commodore and #Amiga machines. He asked if anyone wanted them for free.
I grew up in Italy, where I had no access to any of these publications, so I decided to take them. Hopefully I'll find the time to read them one day...
Until then, I'll do my best to preserve the history printed on these yellowed pages โค๏ธ
Ah, the game running on the PowerPC Amiga is Frogatto and Friends.
First time I try running a platform game on this board, and unfortunately scrolling was a bit sluggish in the highest quality modes. Perhaps this port doesn't render on the GPU, and the 32-bit PCI slot of the Sam440ep doesn't have enough bandwidth to transfer 60 high-resolution frames per second to the GPU.
Anyway... it runs and seems like a fun platform game!

Next to my rig, a #Commodore PC 20 and the super cute A500 Mini running a classic #AmigaOS Workbench image with MagicWB icons and various popular OS utilities from the era.
It's a polished UX, and the hardware is very affordable ($129 + tax on Amazon).

I went to the bi-monthly SCCAN meeting with my Sam440ep, a #PowerPC #Amiga running #AmigaOS4.

@micheal65536 I'm a big fan of strict static typing, but the web platform is "stringy" at every layer: url parameters, html attributes, http headers... even the more structured formats, like JSON, have no schema and require every element to be a variant<string, int, float, list, map>.
So you can do static typing internally, but at the boundary there will be a ton of painful conversions and error checking.
@micheal65536 Bash has its own place. Have you seen Python programs trying to copy files recursively or launch a program and read its output? They are 10x the complexity, and usually buggy (they buffer all the output before starting to parse it, they forget to check the return code, they don't search for the program in the path...)
First time I hear about #Dyon. I'll give it a try, but I'm skeptical that the world needs another dynamically typed, interpreted language, even if it's inspired by #Rust.
Here's another one written in #Rust which drops privileges after opening the evdev input device and can be configured via #Dyon scripts:

Don't want a Python script running as root? There's a whole bunch of different designs that work in #wayland:

I've always remapped the useless Caps Lock key to CTRL key. There's a setting for it on both X11 and Wayland.
Some #vim users remap it to ESC, another frequently used key that's hard to reach from the home row.
So why can't we have both? Caps Lock can act as ESC when pressed alone, or CTRL when pressed in combination with another key.
Turns out multiple people already thought about this. Here's a simple Python script that does this:

@benoit Yeah, sounds like they're trying to bullshit their non-technical customers...
@penguin42 Oh no, I totally get it: during the long covid shutdown I fell into depression after working from a small apartment for several months.
But wouldn't most people with children prefer working from home? I guess it depends on how the kids behave ๐
