A blue PET 2001 made an appearance at yesterday's SCCAN meetup.

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Sunday, 23-Jul-2023 23:09:34 UTC Bernie I can't stand seeing people wearing crocs with socks, especially when they're mismatched ๐
Are they deliberately trying to shock or do they think it's cool?

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Saturday, 22-Jul-2023 19:05:58 UTC Bernie To be fair, Bard integrated in Google Search can also answer this, but it seems to use a built-in calculator rather than an interpreter:
-
Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Saturday, 22-Jul-2023 19:01:04 UTC Bernie Ah, actually the interpreter sometimes fails with the exact same program.
Perhaps they're having load balancing issues with the new service.

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Saturday, 22-Jul-2023 18:55:16 UTC Bernie #GPT4 can finally answer questions involving non-trivial arithmetic, but for some reason the Python interpreter is limited to very short computation...

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jul-2023 09:05:08 UTC Bernie @slyborg But this model doesn't seem to have two nested pots like the Tatung I used today.

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jul-2023 02:19:12 UTC Bernie @slyborg I remember when the "fuzzy logic" fad came out to replace "decision trees".
Then it was "genetic algorithms", and people from University of Florence were seriously trying to sell it to my employer as an alternative for a linear programming problem.
Now they'd go all in with deep learning, transformers and blockchains ๐

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jul-2023 02:07:16 UTC Bernie @slyborg Let's say that microwaved rice was consistently better than my first clueless experiments with the rice cooker ๐

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jul-2023 00:19:52 UTC Bernie @benoit I tried exactly once, in 2018, using the cooker in my sharehouse:
https://mstdn.io/@codewiz/100858504060256674But note how the idea of saving time with microwaved rice was already starting to form in my head ๐

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jul-2023 00:12:36 UTC Bernie On my last trip to Japan I bought a few common types of furikake (rice condiment).
From left to right:
- shiso (red perilla leaves)
- something with plum (ๆข *ใ)
- tororo (grated yam)
- kombu (dried kelp)In the back:
- kurogoma (black sesame)
- shichimi (seven flavors chili mix)In conversation from mstdn.io permalink Attachments

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Monday, 17-Jul-2023 23:45:26 UTC Bernie Ok, I should feel at least a little embarrassed for not learning how to properly cook rice after spending 3 years in Japan...
The truth is I've always used pre-cooked microwavable rice which is ready in 2 minutes ๐

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Monday, 17-Jul-2023 23:37:57 UTC Bernie On the other end of the spectrum, the Zojirushi Neurofuzzy seems awfully complicated.
But minimalism comes at a cost: my previous experiment failed due to using incorrect proportions of rice, water, and water for the outer pot.
It becomes a three-variable problem, essentially ๐

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Monday, 17-Jul-2023 23:08:18 UTC Bernie My first successful batch out of the Tatung.
Unlike the Japanese rice cookers, the Tatung needs water also in the outer pot.
There's only an ON/OFF switch and a lever which starts cooling. After the outer water completely boils out, the temperature raises and the lever is released, switching to the steaming phase.

Now what? Should I buy A-EON's Enhancer Software collection?

https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=23.05.0-rc2&target=ipq806x%2Fgeneric&id=netgear_r7800You can easily add packages and modify the boot scripts. Awesome! ๐คฉ

Bernie (codewiz@mstdn.io)'s status on Sunday, 16-Jul-2023 21:22:45 UTC Bernie Ending a sentence in ใใฉ (kedo), is common in everyday polite #Japanese.
It's roughly equivalent to "but..." with the controversial part of the sentence omitted for politeness. The listener is supposed to figure it out.
