#Pixelfed users,

Pixelfed has just released 10.2 which should fix remote follow bugs, and allow pixelfed <-> pixelfed federation.

Can people check to see if it is working for them on their instance?

You can follow another instance's pixelfed account by searching for its address on your instance.

For example:

AT earth AT pixelfed DOT social

...should federate on other Pixelfed instances.

Indeed. If you don't want to use a phone number, use a normal XMPP app like Conversations (by the same developer as Quicksy).

The only reason Quicksy exists is to give non-tech people the option of using their phone number because they are so used to doing this on Whatsapp etc.

I agree it's not ideal, but it's difficult to have a truly decentralised search engine.

Even SearX gets its results from centralised sources.

If you have better alternatives, would be great to hear them.

By doing this publicly, there's a danger that Microsoft will spin this differently to what RMS is actually saying.

They might try to imply this is some sort of endorsement ("We aren't evil, we've even had Richard Stallman here!"), or merely try to benefit from the optics of RMS speaking next to the Microsoft logo.
