Pocket was bought by Mozilla two years ago, and they claimed at the time they would open source it, but for some unknown reason they have never done so.

There is a git page for Pocket but it doesn't cover the core of the service.

It's better for privacy to use free open projects. If Mozilla could make Pocket free and open then I would be glad to recommend it.

Nextcloud has an official provider-finding tool called "Simple Signup":

This helps people sign up on recommended third party Nextcloud instances.

(Of course you can self-host your own Nextcloud if you prefer, but third party instances are a good option for non-tech people.)

You might want to also add a link to your website in your Mastodon account's metadata section.

You can use the same metadata section to self-verify your account's website link by inserting HTML onto your website.

(Click on "Edit Profile" in your Mastodon account or "Profile" in the settings section)

Yeah, Nextcloud does a lot more than files nowadays. You can use it for *lots* of online services:

p.s. To make clear: This tool is helping people sign up on a pool of third party instances, not on nextcloud.com. It isn't centralising anything.

It's *very* easy to use Nextcloud if you sign up on a third party instance.

You can find approved third party instances on the "simple signup" page:

They're normally free for a trial with payment for extra storage. Whatever instance you use, you can sync with it through the Nextcloud app.

Have to say, every time I try Hubzilla I don't get any further in understanding what it is or who it's aimed at.

I'm just not sure what it's for, and when I ask people reply with massive feature lists.

Maybe if someone could build a clearer interface around it? Or even hide some of the features so that its primary purpose is clearer?

I'm not a developer though so all I can do is say how it seems from the outside :blobsad:
