A fun side of restoring tools is often discovering who the maker was.

The Goldenberg stamp, with its classic eye, on this large pince was completely buried in rust and grime.

Sometimes, however, there is no mark, or it’s indecipherable for whatever reason (scratches, poorly stamped when manufactured, etc).

'citizens, as distinct from voters, need to reclaim their political rights by joining civil society groups that represent their interests and hold governments accountable. How many political action groups do you belong to? Now contrast that with the number of hours per week you spend playing your role as a "consumer".'

From 2010. And while the article is still relevant, every passing decade of inaction is one step closer to 'it don't matter now'.

There needs to be pressure on government to regulate advertising in relation to new climate policy that will be emerging. Car commercials, for example, should not be allowed on TV, billboards or anywhere else if the focus is not at least on electric vehicles. Combustion engines should not be pushed at consumers anymore as market choices. They should be treated like cigarettes, hard liqueur, and guns. People will still find them, but at least it’s not blatantly promoted by the state in the home.

That crossed my line of vision while looking at protein concentrations of beans and grains in general.

We're making our own protein powders for post-workout recoveries, and plan to try some bean and grain combinations. I'm finding these particular references convenient and informative...

And hemp seeds aren't the highest in protein, but apparently something to consider?

A reported 100,000 people protested in Berlin yesterday. If you’re going to do it, that’s the scale that matters. At that scale, even the happy pacifists can make an impression.

But if you’re just a little warband of 15 people, you better be burning cars for it to get attention. Otherwise, just go plant some trees.

In fact, why isn’t there monthly tree-planting marches. Tear up cement and plant trees where they’re not supposed to be. That’s demonstrating.

"A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence ... That no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish; and even in that case there is a mutual destruction of arguments, and the superior only gives us an assurance suitable to that degree of force, which remains, after deducting the inferior." – David Hume, An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, 1748

The dreadfully anticipated #Global Assessment Report on #Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (the one that gives the latest measured standing of global species loss) is coming from the UN's #IPBES. I like the the message they're making in this editor's letter. It tells me Briar Patch Magazine is acutely aware of the big picture.

And, my idol-of-worship, is that a complete lack of third-party advertising? Respectable. More like this, please. If you're in Canada, give them some coins.

Seriously, if you know of other regional climate crisis-oriented periodicals not relying on ad-tech, point them out.

I'm reading Kingsnorth's 'Dark Ecology' (2012) article (and *all* of the ensuing comments, which are critical and fascinating and must be taken in whole with the article) for about the 15th time in three years. Each time is as good as the first, sparking some thing I'd forgotten, or revealing new.

What that is.... More sobering honesty about the actual dilemma humanity is in with #ClimateChange; i.e., some degree of global #SocietalCollapse by 2050, in the lifetime of many readers of this post.

In a different sobering study published Oct. 2018, #JemBendell estimates serious problems even sooner, possibly by 2030...

Yes, bicycles and common transport are righteous, but not everyone lives in an apartment in the city. Remote homesteaders need to transport more than a suitcase. New engineering is making work/haul vehicles like this more energy-efficient than old combustion machinery. A big step in the right direction, and LONG PAST DUE.

I’m not going to lie, I like this four-wheeled tracking device. A little less so now that Bezos invested $700M into the company, but at least it looks like a sure-thing, and much needed advancement into and against the too-popular diesel-guzzling pickup market.

    https://products.rivian.com/

I love the fact the front is all cargo space where an engine used to be. And the full-width storage compartment for long things under the cab. Electric ‘skateboard’ tech is reinventing 4-wheel design.

Are there any #climate #scientists in the fediverse (I hope)? Please point them/yourselves out. I would like to see what's being contributed.

If there are none in the fediverse, as I am beginning to suspect, this is a big problem.

There is a *major* hurdle for hopeful non–self-published book authors who are also conscientious about surveillance capitalism. You pretty much have to be a marketing lorette even before the proposal. Long, long gone are the days that a publisher might just decide on the merit of your #writing ability.

Which makes me wonder... Are there any indie #nonfiction publishers out there that are sensitive to the valid concerns of #SurveillanceCapitalism? Probably not any with money.

Picked about three liters of rosehips in the fields up yonder. My hands paid the price, but the bounty was plentiful.

I’ve known since a kid from my mother that rosehips are loaded with vitamin C and make great tea, and I will use some of these for that, but I’d like to try another recipe or two, if enough. E.g. rosehip soup was popular in Sweden, called Nyponsoppa; a kind of dessert soup, or a ‘breakfast’ soup.

This (head post), really has me impressed. People in my former content strategy clique would vouch, ‘yeah, that fool Baron was always going on about “green content strategy” but we didn’t pay him much mind’, and granted green doesn’t have much chance in corporate playing fields. So it’s really fucking exciting to see the vision happening in real life, even if at a small scale. So inspiring! Now I want a solar-powered magazine (that’s not about the tech).
