Assuming nothing from the outside is powering the universe from growing and spinning forever (a closed system), wouldn't it have to be considered a perpetual motion device?

Since that seems impossible, isn't it proof it's either just a simulation or part of something much, much larger?

      So, three horrible possibilities? 😄

@fribbledom A simulation would just look like everything's expanding indefinitely so we can't get there and break out of the sim. Until "they" turn us off.

Sure, even though anything goes if we're just a simulation. The outside need not be governed by our laws of physics.

@fribbledom wouldn't the simulation theory just shift the same question to another level. What universe and power drives the simulation?!

@fribbledom Isn't that a fallacy? If you assume there's something bigger, then what is powering that bigger thing? If it's a simulation, what is the universe simulated in? What is that powered by? You end up with turtles all the way down.

So I'd say there *has* to be some sort of perpetual motion.

If we're just a simulation, then anything goes, I guess. The outside may have no concept of energy or mass. Laws of physics might just be "fun" constraints of our specific simulation.

You don't have time for this kind of speculation, believe me.
