There's @GetTogetherComm which is an open alternative to MeetUp.com. They aren't federating yet, but their first instance is up and running:

Then there's #Friendica, which is a FB-style social network which federates with Mastodon. It has events, but they only federate with other Friendica servers right now. There are lots of instances, for example:

Gero eta instantzia gehiago gero eta hobe, baina nik ez nuke #Twister-en ordezko bezala salduko, #Fedibertso bat dago hor kanpoan, sare pribatiboetatik at! Alternatiba libre eta deszentralizatuak badaude, erabiltzeko prest al gaude? Hori da galdera!

Jo soc una persona molt tossuda. Per exemple sobre el tema de #Friendica, recordes? Em vas dir que era lent i no acabava de funcionar. Jo le veia una manera de poder connectar #Diiaspora amb #GNUsocial i #Mastodon i arribar al major public possible a l'hora de penjar un missatge. Ho he provat de totes maneres que he sabut i tenies raó. Però he provat de fer-ho fins on he sabut. Dons amb el tema del procés s'ha de ser igual.
